Gears of war 4 is coming!

I bought an xbone S just for this game lol.
I recall the first one - many hours of online co-op was sooo much fun!

Anyhoo for those that don't know you can get the Gears of War Ultimate edition (not gow 4 but the original re-master version) - Apparantly if you play this within a certain timescale MS have announced they will make versions 2 and 3 available to us via backwards compatibility - so not remastered but still playable to pickup the story line. - Tis only £15 codes everywhere (cdkeys etc etc).

Also looking for the cheapest way to get this online if anyone can shed any light.....

First 20mins of GoW4, unlisted youtube vid. Shows the Prologue (training) missions, looks cool as you get to see events that happened in the Pendulum Wars, as well as missions from Gears 1 and 3 from a different perspective.

Can confirm the nvidia codes are xbone compatible.
Redeemed the code to my XLive account and simply logged in on xbone.

This is essentially the only reason I have an XBOX ONE, can't see the point in the season pass if all the maps will be free but on a monthly rotation. I'll be getting it digitally so I can play it on my PC too.

I'll be honest I have low expectations for this as I've played each successive game in the series less and less as the years have gone by.

I must have put thousands of hours in to Gears 1 Multiplayer and none of the others gripped me at all after the campaign. The shotgun just never felt right in any of the sequels.

I've got a feeling this will be mediocre(one player wise). Will buy it digitally eventually so I can play co-op with my mate on PC though, it should shine in that department.

Looks like the console bundle includes the digital version of the Ultimate Edition. As much as I hate digital copies bundled with consoles, I'm okay with this due to Xbox Play Anywhere and the fact that it's the more expensive 'complete' edition with all the DLC and stuff. Very tempting. That might just be enough to tempt me into buying an XB1... coincidentally where's the cheapest place for it?

But...

Also includes early access, exclusive in-game items, six Gear Packs, and a Season Pass for even more exclusive content

What on earth are Gear Packs? Are these micro-transactions like the Req Packs in Halo 5? Cos that jazz is enough to put me off from buying the game (season pass, pre-order bonuses, early access and overpriced digital version is already pushing it too far, but micro-transactions on top of that would just be too evil). Please tell me that they have nothing to do with micro-transactions... I don't want another beloved franchise to be mutated into the usual modern-day games nonsense.

I'm still buying the controller though... which also seems to include these 'Gear Packs'. I'm not liking where this is going...

It sounds to me like Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. You earn credits as you play, you use credits to buy gear packs, you open gear packs to get cards which are costumes, weapon skins, etc. But if you want to pay using real world money to speed things up, then...

And now having read that Horde 3.0 is similar to Mass Effect 3, my hype meter is ramping up!

Yeah, I've looked it up and it's much like the Requisition system in Halo 5. I ******* hated that system, due to the sheer RNG nonsense. Even if Gear packs are only cosmetic, it still is micro-transactions in a full game release, which also has paid DLC (triple-dipping, though DLC is a lot more acceptable). At least Halo tried the excuse that the DLC was free.

it used to be in previous games that we'd unlock stuff for playing the game, completing challenges and stuff. I remember feeling pretty good wearing the Onyx Emblem in Gears 3 for completing the Campaign on the hardest difficulty (the toughest bit was the final boss).

From what I've seen on Youtube and such, I think it's even possible to get duplicates of unlocks you already have (like in Overwatch), in which case you get nothing. That's a pretty terrible way of doing micro-transactions, you could spend a lot of money on it and get barely anything back due to RNG.

I personally won't stand for micro-transactions in full price (or more since they charge extra for the digital version now) games, much less ones which have enough paid DLC to warrant a season pass. It's a matter of philosophy... so I will choose to not buy this game anymore, as a result. And the funny thing is, micro-transactions are aimed at people like me, who work full-time, don't have much time to play but have a lot of disposable income. And yet I don't see the appeal in this case.

After all, it's just a game, so it doesn't matter that I'm missing out. I can always play the older games if I ever feel like playing Gears. There's plenty of other games out there, plenty of fish in the sea so to speak, even if the sea is slowly getting poisoned by greedy BS decisions like this.

For all you folks who have bought the game regardless... enjoy it. And I hope you dont ever feel the need to give in and spend money on gambling for skins.

The difference with the Gears system though is that you can break down unwanted cards into scrap and then use that to buy the cards you do want. So it's not all bad.

Totally agree. I had micro transactions in full price games. I don't care if they're cosmetic or not. If the game costs full retail price AND it has paid for DLC then it should't have micro transactions. It should be MT's AND free DLC or paid for DLC and NO MT's.
Unfortunately MTs are going nowhere as people pay £100's just get a certain item.

Re: Microtransactions

It won't affect me at all as I couldn't give a fig if someone has a fancy skin or emblem unlocked via microtransactions. More fool them for paying money for something that should be a free unlockable as it's already in the game code.

Whilst morons will pay devs will keep putting them in games.

BTW Preloaded on xbone and PC tonight.

Just going for standard edition but hoping for a Saturday delivery since its a monday launch... Wheres best for early deliveries these days, still shopto?

Do you/anyone know if you still get the previous games as downloads with the nVidia promotion codes?
Not played any Gears of War and fancy playing through the lot.

That's a good question.

I preordered mine digitally and received my gears codes last night.

I've pre ordered my physical copy from amazon for £35. I just know it won't get delivered until late on the 11th though. I'm contemplating buying a digital copy so I can play it first thing on release day. I just wish digital copies were priced the same as physical copies.

Bit of a bummer, just tried to pre order it there on games website and use some of my game reward points but you can't use them on pre-orders :/ bit of a shame. Will just have to go instore to pick a copy up on Monday.

Yep and the gaming public are too blame. I play Marvel Puzzle Quest on the ipad as a free game to lose half hour on. People on that spend literally thousands of dollars a week to get the latest character in a match 3 game. One user has easily spent $100,000+ to be the best on the game. The gaming world has gone mental.

I can't wait for this game, I would pay for more maps down the line and that's it. Maybe an Anya skin ;) Not bothered about SP, that's always poor with gears. Will need a co-op partner though!

someone care to explain the butt hurt over the micro transactions?

As far as I know, they offer cosmetic changes that you can earn anyway, not competitive advantages
or have I missed something...

I got so excited about this game I accidentally pre ordered two of the gears console bundles :( Have the elite controller coming too :D
