The Witness out tomorrow(reviews in)

I'd say (so far at least) that 90% are "on screen" yes, but some translate to parts of the world/map that involve physical intervention or navigation to complete.

I picked this up too. I selected the Braid bundle and since I've already got Braid I got The Witness for £11.99, which was nice :)

It's once you realise there are puzzles outside of the "on screen" panels that the game really shines I think.
I read somewhere that The Witness is one of those games that creeps into the real world. That they found themselves looking for patterns in the everyday. Now I'm not sure I'd buy that at all, maybe they have played the game a lot more than me, but I can see where they're coming from.

Finally bought this in the £14.99 sale, I'm a couple of hours in, have absolutely no idea whats happening and stuck on pretty much every single screen I've touched.

Its brill.

It drove me nuts in the end. I did about 75% with minimal guide help but the remainder I just went through with a guide to do it all. Some of the puzzles I would never have figured out.

I bought this in the weekend sale also. I hope I don't regret it, but the reviews have been very positive. I'll start it once I've completed resident evil 7.

At first. Then you notice the puzzles aren't restricted to just the panels, but also in the environment in clever ways. Hard to say more without spoils.

Yes! But I guess you could give a bit more detail such as sometimes the only way to work through a seemingly blank puzzle is to take a step or two backwards... or to the left :p

Just started playing this, but after turning on the first laser, I am a bit confused where I'm supposed to go.

I've just been wandering around the island finding panels that are too complex, because I haven't been "taught" the rules.

Any tips on where I should go please?

Cheers,

Su

Hmmm; which laser have you completed? They can be completed in any order. However, from memory I think I completed the lasers more or less from left to right from the starting location. Have you done the desert location yet?

Fantastic game; I hope Mister Blow is working on something similar.

I’m not entirely sure as to where you need to go, it’s been such a long time. But there are tutorial panels which will teach you the basics of the puzzles so you need to look for those. They are not far from the puzzle panels themselves.

I had to use the IGN walkthrough in the end though. Some of the puzzles were just so obscure that I would never have got the key to solving them in a million years.

Was the same for me, brilliant game but spoiled slightly by the absolute obscurity that was some of the puzzles at the end.
Without a walk through for the last few puzzles I would have been still been sat there today.

OP drop a screenie of the first laser you are trying to solve and we'll be able to work out where you are.
One tip is when you come out of the first section of tutorial puzzles, turn left 90 degrees and start from the first one you run into. I think that's what I did.

The one I completed was on a rocky hill by the sea shore - must be the closest one to the starting point? After wandering around I managed to turn on another one, in the castle with mazes you have to walk around and weird grey statues of people. I think I attempted the desert location, but couldn't figure out the weird hexagon pattern, so kept going past it... maybe I will revisit that location!

And totally agree, loving The Witness (as I absolute loved Braid). I'm working through my Steam stack of shame, and had the "luck" of playing through Inside, and now this game :D

Yeah this is what I've been trying to look for, but maybe the tutorial panels get less obvious-looking the further into the island that you get?

I've not had to look at a walk-through yet (resisted so far!), but imagine it will only be a matter of time! Totally can't even comprehend how someone would go about designing puzzles like this. Another game that amazed me was Antichamber, highly recommend it. I think next on my list (if this game doesn't drive me to madness) will be The Talos Principle.

Cheers,

Ha, that desert one with the hexagons was one of the two that I would never have got without cheating. I literally spent hours on that and one with a load of branches before I had to cheat.
