ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO

Just powered mine up after updating the bios for the first time. 1700x Cpu temp is 52 on the bios screen but i have no idea if its bad heat sink placement or the bios being wrong.

Edit just refit it now its 42 that seems better. Rusty not fitting a cpu in 5 years.

Just changed my memory to 3000. 16gig of night hawk and its posted fine again. Now i need to install my m.2 drive and install windows and see what happens. Also my cpu is now showing as 20. Hmmm

Has anyone done a reinstall of windows 7 on the crosshair? I'm trying to do one at the moment but when I get to the language page it doesn't recognise my keyboard or mouse I have them plugged into the usb2 ports but nothing. Anyone got any ideas?

Bios is a bit iffy, sometimes it doesn't post and it takes a while to as well while its flashing 10000 Q codes at me. But its bloody quick at installing windows on an m.2 drive. Took less time to do that and then post....

yeah the first cold boot on a morning is a nightmare. I always have to reset cmos to get it to boot, but once its been on for a few hours, I can load my 3.8 OC profile and it boots no problem. Hope this cool booting issue will get fixed soon.

Setup my system tonight. Unfortunately had to update the bios before I manage to get to boot it for first time.....
LOL.

Just update it via the usb before even putting the cpu/ram in. It's what i did. I just gave it 5 mins after the update led stopped flashing to be sure.

Mine would post with the memory at 3000 but doing nothing but downloading drivers it just stopped with the dram led on and a q code(I've forgotten what it was) . So put it back on to baby speeds till I've updated the pc. I'll try 2666(?) after and see what happens. Think i will wait a bios or two before playing around too much.

Right I have taken the plunge and ordered this board hope it goes well.

Is it best to update the BIOS before putting in the CPU and RAM

Yeh I would do it that way. 100% sure it doesn't boot and brick its self that way. Just be 100% sure its finished the process.

So is there an LED that lights up to show its updating and goes off when its finished?

How long does it take?

The button itself will flash when it's initiated but there's nothing on the board to tell you it's finished, so use a usb stick with an activity light. It can take a few mins. I'd then leave it a moment more for safety, go make a brew or something.

If there's no activity light, I'd just set it off and wait for 10/15mins. No point rushing it.

No problem so do you do this with system powered off?

Also do you have to give the BIOS file a specific name?

Yeah, the bios file has to be renamed C6H.CAP and the usb stick has to use a certain slot.

Don't apply power but you need the power plugged in and the normal standby lights on. Don't think you even need a CPU/ram fitted.
