I'd put money on him not catching up. Using softs going 1-2 seconds faster he'll likely not keep up this pace at all. LIke I said, 2-3 laps earlier he would have been 4-5 seconds closer to Vettel when pitting. Insane to keep him out so long just to go onto the softs.

How is it insane when he did not have any SS available

Can you not read? These laps can do 20+ laps EASILY, they kept him out on the old softs for 4-5 laps losing 2 seconds a lap. So he lost 7-10 seconds roughly over 4-5 laps that he didn't need to because had he pitted 4-5 laps earlier he'd still have this tire life, newer tires, a faster car, a faster driver and half the gap to close.
