**** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Thread ****

Note 1 does everything I need still even today, never feels slow. I actually quite like the 16:10 format both from the screen width and dimensions of the device of the original Note.
 
^ that's surprising. Not sure why but my Note 4 has become noticeably slower in the past few months and this was a brand new unit not that long ago.
 
I have no idea what some people do to their phones :p my Note 4 (over a year old) never runs slow except very rarely just before it crashes and reboots itself.
 
It didn't do this on my first Note 4 and I usually update with an updated or new ROM every few months but you can now clearly see it think or struggle for a very brief moment when doing some tasks.
 
I think some of us run custom roms and optimise them to the nth degree - in that sense I can appreciate why a note 1 would still be sprightly today. My Note 3 when running a custom rom is still super quick (although I have noticed when comparing to newer phones its a bit laggy) and I will happily continue to use it.

But I do want a Note 8 :D
 
My Note 1 is optimised to the nth degree but still on the shipping variant of Android (part of the reason I went to the Note 4 for newer security updates, etc. reasons) due to the eMMC brick bug it can't be updated without almost certainly killing it.
 
After you've used something fast like a oneplus3 or a Pixel, anything over 2 years old feels noticeably slower. Especially when installing and updating apps.
 
Yeah I think it was 99% certain they would keep the new aspect ratio. Otherwise a 6.3 inch screen would be too big if they didn't as the reason the S8+ feels so nice in the hand is the smaller width.

After having owned a s8+ and returned it due to the red tint I'm hoping there fixed on the note line. My next phone will most likely be this or the Iphone 8.

I hope they've not gone telephoto lens to copy Apple instead of having the more useful wide angle lens.

And yay for not having that full retard FPS location ala S8.
 
Strange how the s-pen isn't visible from either front or rear (obviously assuming it's real). I know it could just be an early prototype etc., but normally you can see the s-pen at least from the rear.

As phones get thinner I don't know how they're going to keep being able to have s-pens slotted in the body.

Anyway I need this phone as I use the s-pen all the time at work and my Note 4 is getting weary now and needs retiring.
 
Bit more news coming through (none surprising) that it will use the Infinity display and aspect ration from the S8, and come with 7.1.1 out of the box.

Can you elaborate on this please; after about 2 years my Note 4 started getting a lot of battery issues (getting hot and draining quickly, switching off at 20%, randomly jumping down to 3%) so I replaced the battery and it is a bit better but still not great. With heavy usage it doesn't even last a full day. Interested to know how others have handled this experience.

Since the April Security update I've also had problems with overheating mainly caused by the DCMProvider process running non-stop and using 70%+ CPU time. After a reset it's not done it again.

Which replacement battery did you get? The vast majority of the Samsung labelled ones on ebay, Amazon and a couple of other sellers are fake and only have about 2/3rds the capacity of a genuine one. Samsung have them available at the moment.
