I have run the GPU-Z beta on my Vega 56 and it reports HBM2 (Samsung) memory. I understand from the GPU-Z author that this is reliable.

So, it seems that AMD is shipping Vega 56 with Samsung memory for now at least.

Awesome:D

What Revision does the beta report on your card? Mine is C3 according to gpu-z 2.2.0 & the review one's appeared to be Rev 1. Wondering what the difference might be - if any.

Has anyone else come across this at bootup?

I've also been unable to install drivers as it blue screens on me with a atikmdag.sys error which I can't for the life of me fix after spending all day on it!

At the moment I've got a very expensive red paperweight in my computer :(

Other than faulty, what is your PSU? Definitely seated properly and two separate power cables from PSU to GPU?

Have you got an old x58 setup? I have the same problem when installing drivers.

Seems there may be an issue with older systems and the Vega cards

https://community.amd.com/thread/219437

After trying pretty much everything I'm returning the card and probably going for a 1070, which suddenly have gone up in price.

Basic Fire Strike Graphics scores on the two Vega 56 BIOS in each Profile (+power limit) using top fan speed and everything else on stock.

LEFT BIOS:
Balanced Profile (+0%): 17576
Turbo Profile (+15%): 17866
Custom Profile (+50%): 18316

RIGHT BIOS:
Balanced Profile (+0%): 17220
Turbo Profile (+15%): 17631
Custom Profile (+50%): 17918

It would certainly seem that the left BIOS is producing higher performance. Judging by the higher temperatures and fan speeds, I would attribute this to the left BIOS running at a higher TDP in all three profiles. We see a similar pattern in the various Vega64 left/right BIOS. I can only hazard a guess at the actual TDP on the two BIOS in the absence of laboratory testing, but I would not be surprised with something like 200W right and 230W left.

So, if you really want to stick with a Vega 56 BIOS rather than flashing to a Vega 64, then at least you have a choice.

That's disappointing if I've formatted my windows install for nothing that will be annoying. I'm running a Z68 chipset, would be interesting to see if others have successfully installed vega on similar?

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Vega 56.

I get revision C3 on both versions of GPU-Z.

Probably all the retail boards are C3 then if it makes any difference!

Very happy with my card anyway. I was worried about the ref cooler but it's fine with a bit of tweakage - currently got my card at 1030mv, +50 power target & 900 hbm:)

So.. tried 17.8.1 - same thing, literally no way to install the drivers with this card in - same error as everyone else and also tried 17.8.1

Also using gigabyte ga-z68xp-ud3... with 2500k, unbelievable AMD - guessing this is going back fairly shortly like others in that AMD thread above :(

Will try and install with my 290 - which i imagine will be fine, appears the minute you swap over to the vega it bluescreens anyway.
