Poor Hynix
I have run the GPU-Z beta on my Vega 56 and it reports HBM2 (Samsung) memory. I understand from the GPU-Z author that this is reliable.
So, it seems that AMD is shipping Vega 56 with Samsung memory for now at least.

Has anyone else come across this at bootup?
I've also been unable to install drivers as it blue screens on me with a atikmdag.sys error which I can't for the life of me fix after spending all day on it!
At the moment I've got a very expensive red paperweight in my computer
Other than faulty, what is your PSU? Definitely seated properly and two separate power cables from PSU to GPU?
I've got a 650W Antec PSU with both cables coming from a different 12V rail. Yeah I tried reseating it with no change.
Bios update mobo?
Due to come online in Oct iirc
Awesome
What Revision does the beta report on your card? Mine is C3 according to gpu-z 2.2.0 & the review one's appeared to be Rev 1. Wondering what the difference might be - if any.

Have you got an old x58 setup? I have the same problem when installing drivers.
Seems there may be an issue with older systems and the Vega cards

After trying pretty much everything I'm returning the card and probably going for a 1070, which suddenly have gone up in price.
took long enough but eventually.....
:edit: just doing coupe of benchmarks on r9 290 to see what the difference is for shts n giggles..
That's disappointing if I've formatted my windows install for nothing that will be annoying. I'm running a Z68 chipset, would be interesting to see if others have successfully installed vega on similar?
I get revision C3 on both versions of GPU-Z.
Hmm, im finding the same thing - trying to install 17.8.2 and getting bluescreen every time.... im also z68.....
I just got timespy GPU score: 6978 with stock bios. 2% boost on freq at 1080mv, 50% power limit, 915 memory on wattman.
