Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

That is the only thing that would finish Star Wars for me tbh. It just wouldn't make sense. Luke should be on another level tbh - the new yoda basically.
Have we ever had indication that luke really is that good? (genuine question: I'm not especially versed in SW)

Wasn't he, basically, weaker than Vader and Palpatine, for example?

He did pretty well against them given his lack of training and experience. He is the offspring of anakin (one of the most powerful force users ever), so surely should be more powerful than most others? Depends on Rey's background I guess. It is tricky since so little is canon now.

That's the trouble really with them re-hashing the story to suit. Most of our perception was always that Luke was going to become very strong because that's where the story ended, but in reality he never won a fight, he even got lucky against Fett, but as he was at that time the 'last jedi' you kind of just assume he would restore order, which is what the EU effectively did with him, but we now know he wasn't the last of the Jedi or anywhere close. They have filled gaps with Jedi in Canon with rebels. So you have to think why did Obi Wan think Luke was actually the chosen one and choose to protect him while offering no protection what so ever to Leia. It's all our own assumption and probably wishful thinking that Luke was powerful, I have a feeling they are going to smash our boyhood dreams. That won't be a fault of the film makers but I think that will be the actual point I wished I'd checked out of SW earlier.

There's also rumblings about Snoke being the puppet master all along even in the original trilogy, I hope not.

This is seeming more and more likely. It would also be pretty silly/lazy writing. If anything the extended universe has limited them in what they could do. I just hope they do justice to Luke's story, but they probably won't. Kylo or Rey will likely kill him or some such rubbish.

Great breakdown of the trailer here, I'll spoiler it just in case some don't want to see it.

He's never been shown as good (apart from non canon) he has never had any training and he only won the Vader fight by tapping into the dark side.

Assuming he doesn't use the dark side any more I can't see him being up to much of anything at all which will be a bit sad but understandable. There's no real justification for him being any good if you get critical about it other than he has a lot of "potential" but unless they write in another Jedi he would never have been trained.

Surprised there were any left the time Palpatine was killed, ending his purge.

Well the sith survived with them despite only having the order of two.

Which is back on again next Mon/Tue.

It's going to be really interesting seeing how they get rid of Kanan and Ezra. Although it is Disney so I expect them to pop up despite being missing in the originals, Ashoka too. Lucas was a lousy script and dialogue writer but I think by the time this trilogy is finished I'm going to feel my youth has been peed on more than anything Lucas badly wrote.

Meh trailer looks 'OK' , good to see Mark back, but I still hate Adam Driver with a passion (as an actor) and know he will ruin my enjoyment of this film. Also the trainer showed a little too much imo it really wasn't necessary to show her being seduced by Kylo the dark side.

Also the new cute little alien flying next to Chewie made me sigh with its unnecessary cheesiness.

Am I the only one hating the stupid little winged rat thing in the Falcon Cockpit?

Everyone seems to be going nuts over it, all I see is a small version of Jar Jar!

Disney don't miss a stuffed toy opportunity. A mate of mine has already bought one for his son for Christmas...the must have item I hear!

.

I'm pretty sure that was misdirection. But yes I hate that he looks like an Emo Sith.

I showed my son the trailer last night and he laughed at that section. Job done Disney. Adults and old trilogy fans need to stop thinking these films are for them. It's a bonus if we like them but the target audience is the kids who nag their parents for all the star wars **** and another generation that buys into it. Rogue one was more adult orientated and my son has not asked to watch that again since the day we left the cinema.

The trailer has been edited to make it appear that way, they're trying to make people think one thing will happen when the actual movie will go in another direction. Same ploy with rogue one and the trailers hinting Jyn was an imperial spy.
