Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

LOL, and more power to you bro, not saying people shouldn't like it just saying I don't. :)
It's pure pointless marketing mush to make it appeal to kids and sell more toys. I guess it's a sacrifice we have to make now it's gone to Disney. :)

The trailer has been edited to make it appear that way, they're trying to make people think one thing will happen when the actual movie will go in another direction. Same ploy with rogue one and the trailers hinting Jyn was an imperial spy.

Hmm ok, guess we will see soon!

Such things never happened on Lucas' watch....................... Oh wait.................... Star Wars Holiday Special, Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, Ewoks: The Battle of Endor. Star Wars has always been a HUGE cash in on toys and related paraphernalia, the idea that some people seem to be having that this is a new evil that Disney has brought in just demonstrates how strong the rose tinting is on their glasses when it comes to looking at the original trilogy. I find it bizarre

****Edit****
It's not like that wasn't the case when it was with Lucas.

Beaten to it like a Stormtrooper at a target range :o

I didn't say BB8 was bad. I loved him/her too!

My bad, thought you weren't a fan :)

Thing is with BB-8, Disney had developed the tech/model a few years before they even got the SW rights, it's believed he was going to be some kind of live action Wall-E character. Then star wars happened and we got BB-8 which i'm thankful for. Although there is a lot of CGI with BB-8, he is kind of autonomous and can really move around the way depicted purely in model form.

Well the sith survived with them despite only having the order of two.

It's going to be really interesting seeing how they get rid of Kanan and Ezra. Although it is Disney so I expect them to pop up despite being missing in the originals, Ashoka too. Lucas was a lousy script and dialogue writer but I think by the time this trilogy is finished I'm going to feel my youth has been peed on more than anything Lucas badly wrote.

They've already wrote Rex right through RotJ now and Hera into rogue one (and I think the droid as well)

They'll find some way of ticking them over knowing Disney.

I never suggested otherwise, however it was never this blatant or seemingly pointless in the core Star Wars movies. Even Jar Jar, love him or loathe him (and God did I loathe him), was a valid character.

I'm not even sure why we are debating this as it's just an obvious matter of fact, expected even, that Disney are shoehorning this cutesy stuff in to sell more merchandise. That doesn't make it any easier to swallow, though. :)

Plenty of obvious misdirection in the latest trailer. I stand by my theory that Rey & Kylo are 2 sides to the same coin and will have to come together to cancel each other out a la Neo & Smith.

My one concern going into The Last Jedi is how they handle Luke. He's always been my favourite character in Star Wars and, while I understand that they want new blood to take the reigns, he's still Luke Skywalker and we haven't seen him in action since RotJ. I want to see him slap down some rebellious youth with his power.

Honestly I genuinely like Rey and Kylo, I think JJ Abrams did a great job setting them up. HOWEVER if I see either of them beat Luke I'll be ****** not only because he's my favourite character, but because it'll ruin the lore. Because from now on, any brand new character can come along and beat anyone with the excuse "oh but the force awakened in them." It's game over plot-wise at that point.

But... I believe there's an explanation for both Kylo and Rey. I believe the trailer actually tells us something about Rey's origins. Obviously its just a theory and I don't know for certain, but I'll use Spoiler tags anyway.

Luke is shocked by Rey's power, he's clearly surprised and actually frightened. He then says this: "I've seen this raw strength only once before, it didn't scare me enough then, it does now."

Let's think about this. The trailer openly suggests he's talking about Kylo because when he's saying this it shows a flashback to when Ben Solo destroyed his temple, and it also cuts immediately to Kylo Ren standing with his helmet on while his theme plays in the background. The trailer WANTS us to think its Kylo, because it makes sense doesn't it? Afterall Rey is there to be trained right? The last time Luke trained someone it all went wrong, hence the Kylo connection.

However read it again.

Luke says: "I've seen this raw strength only once before." ONCE before. If he was talking about Ben Solo that would mean Ben had more raw strength in the force than Obi Wan did, Yoda did, Darth Vader and the Emperor himself. Throw Leia in too, being the daughter of Anakin and Ben's mother. These are all known force users Luke has come face to face with... So, really!? I'm not having it. What would make Kylo some freak of strength compared to Luke, Yoda, Vader or the Emperor?

Then it raises the question about Rey. If Kylo is so incredibly powerful in the force, how was she able to beat him so soundly without any training at all and not even knowing what the force is...?

To me this this suggests Luke is instead talking about Darth Vader, the one conceived by the force itself. Renown for having incredible raw strength and power in the force and Luke's main nemesis and ultimate challenge in his Jedi life. This is why Luke is so scared, she see's his father's strength in her and he's frightened about what she could become. I just can't see Luke being frightened over Ben Solo, he could be sad or depressed about him, feeling like he failed his nephew, but not frightened.

So then who is Rey?

I think there's a chance that the trailer tells us straight up who she is, but it concerns Snoke. When he says: "When I found you, I saw raw untamed power, and beyond that something truly special."

Bearing in mind what Luke said above, this would suggest Snoke's talking to Rey. I believe in one of the new canon books it describes Snoke's manipulation of Ben as happening over time, years if I remember correctly. Both Leia and Han knew about Snoke. So it doesn't really fit if he's describing Kylo. But Rey, who frightens Luke with her "raw strength" seems more likely to be who Snoke is speaking to. And so if this is the case, it would suggest that Snoke found Rey at some point but she was taken and hidden away on Jakku somehow.

Another point to mention is that in the official Force Awakens novel, Kylo knows about Rey, when she pulls the lightsaber in the snow he comments, as if finally realising, "It is you." Throughout the whole Force Awakens story it is suggested people already know about her. Perhaps Rey is part of Snokes plan, like the way Anakin was part of Palpatine's plan.

So maybe Rey, like Anakin, is born from the force itself. I know this isn't a new idea, but the trailer seems to suggest something is going on with her beyond that of a normal powerful force user.

All of this would make even more sense if Snoke turns out to be Plagueis afterall.

I let my inner nerd ramble on a bit there :p

The first thing "it didn't scare me enough then, it does now." made me think of was the exchange with Yoda in ESB.
"I'm not afraid". "You will be". Which happened just before the fight in the cave with Vader/Luke, so there is an association.
It seems they are going down the ESB route, with the AT-AT fighting on a white background, the Falcon flying through a cave and a few others. So that would mean there will be a big plot twist at the end, probably involving family. So your Nerd rambling:D could well be correct
