The ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX/EXTREME Owners Thread

Glad it's worked out for you! Bet your heart was at a good rate while Delidding. Mine certainly was :D.

Yeah the temp drop is astonishing. Before I was getting over 100c and now 60-70s just like yourself.

Just insane intel somehow made the choice to use thermal toothpaste rather than solder.

I'd love the monoblock for the vrms but the piping route changes would be almost impossible with my having an air cooled gpu now.

I've been looking at the Monoblock, but it means as you said re-doing my hard line tubing but its doable.

Also if anyone else had a issue where the RGB lighting stops working and EC1 LEDs firmware is no longer shown in the bios I used the following method.

1. Flashed Recovery BIOS and performed loaded optimized default settings once the BIOS updated had completed.
2. Removed CPU, RAM, DIMM.2 & GPU from the board
2. Removed all plastic covers from the board.
3. Disconnect Battery and all LED light connections
4. Wait 30 mins or delid a CPU while awaiting...
5. Reconnect battery and all LED connection and re-assemble the MB
6. Plug in power to the board and press Start and all the LED's all came to life
7. Install CPU, RAM, DIMM.2 & GPU
8. Check BIOS, which now shows EC1 firmware which was missing before.
9 Boot in the Windows and load Aura (1.05.25) which now shows the MB.
10. Enable Happy mode because its all working.

All I can say is thank you to the chaps at Asus HQ for helping me out, as all the fixes they suggest first of all didn't work.

1. Perform a BIOS recovery (Using 0702, 0802 and 1002) - Didn't work
2. Perform a BIOS recovery, load optimized defaults and remove the CMOS battery - Didn't work
3. Unplug LEDs and Plug them back in - Didn't work.
4. Also tried Win8.1 / Win 10 (1604) and the current version none of which worked.

It also means I have a spare Rampage VI extreme board unopened here now.

So...anyone delidded and/or overclocked the 12 or 14 core i9's yet? Got an itchy trigger finger, just need to decide which of the i9's to pull on but I want to be sure the 12 or 14 core can get close to 5ghz. Will be getting the Rampage VI Extreme, in thr process of planning my build and praying it fits in the Lian Li PC-011 Rog edition.

@8 Pack any plans to add higher core binned/delidded i9's besides the 7900-x?

I've been keeping a keen eye out for these but the data on these CPU's seems to be very minimal at the moment. However, the ones I have seen look to be clocking to around 4.7 without too many issues.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to it as it's a competitor forum but I've seen a delidded i9-7920x at 5ghz at 1.375v in cpu-z. 12 cores at 5ghz is impressive. Big drop on temps shown on the before and after aswell

I have been putting together an i9 7940x for my grandson, under water rampage 6 monoblock and so far have got to 4.4Ghz using standard benchmarks it runs at 78c but i do ahve 2x360 rads just for this cpu. he wants me to delid. no way am i going to do that. just waiting for him to get the money for a 1080Ti

So the system is more or less finished now other than buying the Samsung 960's to replace my other SSD's which should tidy the wires up a little more.

That's the exact look I'm going for. Are those the ML120 Fans? How do they perform? Which rads? I'm really stuck with my radiator choice in the pc-o11wgx rog. I can fit 1 or 2 thick 360 rads and 1 or 2 slim 360 rads. Total of 3 rads, one of them has to be slim but the other 2 can be 45 or 60mm thick. Best slim one seems to be the hwlabs nemesis gts 360 but its a restrictive flow rad. And i was thinking thick ek rads but they need fast rpm fans for best perf. I'm also going for the rbg plexi monoblock for the motherboard

Yes, they are the ML120's and I have 10 of them in total I've been pretty impressed with they as they work well. My rads are the Hardware Labs Nemesis GTR's which scale very well with the ML120's.

That dominator does look insane in there. I'm trying to hold off buying anything else :D :p

Always the way is it not! Always something new and shiny around the corner we want :D

Only thing is they are a 3000 MHz kit, can be run at 3200 MHz and timings tightened by upping the voltage, which worked fine with Haswell-E, but if I ever get this board in the case, would like to move up me thinks with Skylake-X supporting better RAM speeds.
