**** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Thread ****

Don't know about the N8 but my N4 got quite warm when using a Qi charger, to the point I stopped using it.

The time has come ladies and gentlemen - some units have started receiving 8.0 :cool:. Undoubtedly there will be problems post update :p but looking forward to it. However, for the love of God Google, can whatever battery promises you made be actually kept. I swear every major update I have gone through in recent years has decreased by battery performance.

Another general question to the folks who've been regularly using wireless charging...

I purchased one yesterday. Not Samsung branded. Put it on about an hour ago and have noticed that the phone is slightly warm to the touch. Not hot by any means, but warm enough to notice. About as hot as any phone gets after half hours graphic intensive gaming say. It seems to be mainly located slightly above the middle of the device.

Is this normal? I assume it's just a by product of wireless charging in general, but as this is a follow on from the 7... just want to be sure :)

I'm really torn regarding the Note 8, I got one on that incredible trade in deal + discount codes for just under £600, and whilst I feel the phone is a bit too tall and heavy, I'm getting 5-7 hours SOT, which is the best I've ever had on a device. I was set to return it but thus is really making me reconsider...

I use fast wireless charging regularly, and I can't say I've ever noticed it being as warm as a gaming session would make the phone.
 
Hmmmm... could just be the charger then. I'll keep an eye on the internal temps as well as general feel. If any of it looks to be a bit too toasty, ill return back with my findings and look into buying the proprietary wireless charger.

Anyone know of a good, concise battery management app? Tried a few so far and they're just too cluttered. All I really want is something to properly monitor app usage so I know what to isolate if something's too hungry.

The Galaxy Note 8 isn’t going to be the first device from Samsung to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Samsung has actually been running a beta program for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Both devices are expected to get their Oreo update by the end of this month.

However, it appears that the Galaxy Note 8 Oreo update has been randomly released to at least one user with the Exynos-powered variant of the device. It’s unusual because the beta program was never expanded to the Galaxy Note 8.

Someone claiming to work for Samsung posted pictures of their Galaxy Note 8 model SM-N950F that randomly received the Oreo update. The Reddit user says this is a device “that customers can touch and use at will,” so they probably work at an experience center or in a retail location.
 
Heads up, unlocked UK users should start receiving their first update in months (security patches, bug fixes, Live Focus improvements etc) now. Unfortunately not Oreo yet.
 
HAve to say, I'm really not that impressed with the battery life I'm getting at the moment.

Having skowered every battery saving video on YouTube, eliminating most of the bloatware and diligently monitoring app optimisation, I'm still lucky to get 3.5hrs of SOT per day. The only thing I refuse to turn off is BT as I need it for the smartwatch.

It's such a shame as I love pretty much everything else about the phone. Gonna have to return it I think. It's just too much of a leap going form a monster like the OP5 to this :(

I tend to average around 4.5 - 5 hours screen time & 2 days between charges.
Thats with BT running as well as I also have a Gear S3 watch connected to it. Best i've got out of the battery was 64 hours between charges, that was with 6 hour SOT.

I don't tend to let the battery run right down now though, as I have wireless charging at home & work I just pop the phone on the charger for 30mins when I'm down to about 50%
 
Anyone have any issues with the camera being grainy/noisy when taking photos from the rear cameras?

Edit:

Selecting live focus isn't stops the grain/noise from happening. I have a feeling the camera has messed up some how. Just reflashing the firmware via Odin

Bluetooth has made no difference to my battery life (headphones). A little unsure about this recent update though, my battery life on the low end seems to drain faster.
 
I've noticed on mine that it's got a lot of light leek on the left hand side when watching videos at night. Apart from that battery is spot on.

Edit..

Swapped it for a new one today via CPW and thankfully after opening two units in store I managed to get one without the light leek. Happy days :D
