GPU prices go boom

Working in ocean imports myself, they maybe coming down as this is the "cheap" period bring cargo in. 2 years ago you could bring a 40ft container for under $300 at the moment they're still over $1000 its not all to blame on the ROE like everyone seems think, when you import cargo there are so many contributing factors to think of.

I honestly dont see prices softening too much this year anyway, not unless a pointless shiny new card comes out :)

I work on the RoRo side of Ocean Imports and a lot of the current problem is due to Lack of capacity. They scrapped a lot of the older boats during the last recession as it was costing them loads in mooring fees and paying skeleton crews to keep them in a sea worthy condition. Since volumes have increased it costs 100s of millions for each new ship and that's why cargo costs are rising.

Working for YOURSELF is the only way to get rich. Can’t believe u don’t understand that. :p

(29 years and counting, btw.. ;))
depending on what you classify as rich but top tier staff at top companies I am guessing would fit the bil, e.g. CFO /CEO. Now on the likelyhood index better bet to work for yourself, bigger risk to.

But the market knows there is too much capacity which is why the carriers still can't get anywhere near what they want per box.

So, After the rant at AMD and 12hrs of messing a 2 minute BIOS update solved it then ;)

Glad you have sorted though.

I don't really see the connection between the two. How does bios cause only a loaded gfx card to fall over? Somthing to do with ROM and the PCIe interface? It's not exactly a first port of call.
Many, many people seem to have had these problems and just about everything under the sun is menioned as a possible fix. I only decided on a flash because I didn't have very many options left. The two versions are only a year apart. *shrug* (2011 to 2012)

Exactly this, they have made these new shiny boats, but screwed themselves in the process because they cant fill them!
So now to fill them they make blank sailings and skip a week at certain ports to drive a rate up when ever they can.

It's getting nice and warm outside - gaming can take a back seat until the winter comes again :p Maybe then we'll have nV's next gen... or maybe not... who knows.

I guess it's a good price on a 1070 but this late in the day I'm not even slightly tempted. But then that attitude only works when you've reached the point of not caring if you game or not :p Thanks miners; thanks nV... you've weaned me off my only addiction, hah.

Come on man, stop going out in the sun - it's bad for you! Plenty of stuff to play that doesn't require massive amounts of pixel pushing power :p

Pretty much sums up my reaction and current state of mind. 6 months ago I would have jumped at a bargain for the old rig, but even now that prices are going down I'm left thinking "Sod it I'll get a PS4 pro".

Feels like Nv and their resellers have killed off some of their customer base

Yeah, me too. Instead of being all excited about buying the new cards and then finding games to show them off, I'm just thinking they are so old hat now, I might as well wait until I find some games that actually need a new card. I would have bought a Vega when they came out if non-blower cards had been available at a sensible time and sensible price. Instead it was three or four months later and costing £700+. I'm over it.

Well I'm (relatively) happy after my 9 month old Palit Jetstream 1080 went bust. After some 'discussion' with the other retailer, they finally agreed to refund the full amount I paid for the card last year (£450). :D

Have since bought a Gigabyte Windforce 1080 @ £515 from OCUK so a lot more confident of the outcome if I face another failure down the road whilst in warranty. Had to pay out extra to be same position I was in a few weeks back but could have been worse!

Not many reviews of the Windforce card but a lot of comment about fan noise and coil whine, which I was a bit nervous about. However, having installed the card and put it through it's paces on a variety of games + benchmark I can confirm that it is cooler than the Palit it replaces, fans don't ramp up much and when they do the noise level is good (Palit may have been a bit quieter) and no coil whine.

I also have 3yrs warranty which is a step up from the 2yrs on the Palit.

Treated myself to a nice 34" 21:9 monitor too :D:D:D
