[H]ardOCP: GeForce Partner Program Impacts Consumer Choice

They already stand out with their GTX XXXX branding. Anyone buying a graphics card knows who and what that is, and then there is the green color scheme, the name Nvidia, I mean there is absolutely no reason to further add exclusivity to the naming of their products. Saying it is for gamers own sake and imply it would otherwise be confusing is just horse ****. No one has bought an AMD/ATI card ever thinking they got a Nvidia GPU, or vise versa, due to confusion with the names..NO ONE!

That was some grade A BS.

Couldn't agree more.

Couldn't be more wrong, I know 3 people who have purchased cards thinking they were NVidia, but ended up buying ATI by mistake, completely their own fault but it has and probably still does happen.
To claim that no one has ever done it is just plain wrong.:)

how is it even possible for someone to buy an amd card thinking its an nvidia card? its in big bold bright letters on the box :D:D:D
when did they realise? did they try to install the nvidia driver and get a message about no gpu detected, investigate and realise :D:D:D
you need to tell the stories behind these three purchases, i cant conceive of any situation whereby someone could be colorblind, cant spell or cant read numbers to tell the difference.

Hope everyone understands now.

It was only ever about making sure people understood what GPU was in the box they were buying. Most of you loved this idea and it's been ruined by the minority.
It's adorable that you think he'd actually publicly tell the truth rather than just give some PR spin speil.

That really is quite the naive mentality you've got there.

That is entirely a them problem and not a branding or marketing problem.

I also know of someone that bought a new motherboard to use with their existing CPU. They had an AMD and bought an Intel motherboard.

They did that because they were stupid and arrogant and didn't think they needed to actually research what they were buying.

Fanboys will be fanboys. It's the same attitude that allows Trump to get away with the things he does. As he said, he could probably shoot someone in New York, and people would still defend him.

Sometimes it seems people have the same attitude with Apple/Nvidia.

It blows my mind that people are still trying to defend GPP. They absolutely have to be paid shills.

...I'm having trouble believing you.. 3 people you say? so 3 people specifically knew that they wanted Nvidia, as in knowing what and who Nvidia is/are and what they make, but didn't know that ATI/AMD was not supposed to be on the box? Fair enough, if we are being pedantic I stand corrected, but you know well what I mean. There could only be Nvidia in the world of GPUs and someone somewhere would be dumb enough to buy a typewriter thinking it would let them game, but that is not what I meant and you know it :).

You must know some very stupid people :D:D:D:D:D

I mean one is called Nvidia and the other is called AMD or Ati back in the day. How can you go wrong here even if you don't know hardware very well. That's like somebody wanting to buy a Sony TV but ending up with a Samsung.

They Both put out exactly what customers want. I have both and will probably still buy both in the future because the alternatives are lacking.

This is the problem, While Vega does give the performance of the 1070/ti & 1080 it loses out in temps, power requirements & noise,
It's why their isn't an official Vega Nano like there was a Fury Nano. Vega took two steps backwards & one step forward.

It does feel like they have been incentivised in some way. The only other thing that I can think of is that they are so heavily invested in it (say from the exorbitant pricing) that they feel they must defend it or else it would feel like a bad investment - similar to people who voted for Trump.

Yes it has happened and will probably continue to happen because there are people out there that are that stupid.
In one case my brother in law was told by me that the card he wanted was a GTX 7800, he came back with a x800 which of course was the wrong card entirely.
A lot of the time it is down to people just not listening, or not researching what they need, as Spoffle mentioned above about CPU's and motherboards.

So yes it does happen and to claim as a fact that it has never happened is just incorrect.

Or maybe people just don’t care as it is a graphics card, I know I do not. If an AMD card suited my needs I would buy it no matter what it was called, vice versa with Nvidia.

I would struggle to buy anything in life if I adopted this attitude to every purchase.
