What film did you watch last night?

Solo. 7/10

Easily the weakest of the 3rd era of Star Wars movies. It feels like a movie-by-the-numbers creation. There's some spectacle, some nice visuals, and hat-tips to the other films but it doesn't do enough to either make the story or the characters work. Still, it's nice to see Nico Rosberg finding his feet in his post-F1 career.

Friday: Commuter - 4/10. Standard Neeson chaff that he churns out in his sleep these days. Nothing original about it and bad guy spotted in the opening 10 minutes. 100 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Saturday: Savage Streets - 6/10. An oldie from 1984, never actually watched it before only discovered after hearing one of Linda Blair's soundbites ("Pity you're not double jointed...") worked into a Pertubator music track. Essentially a revenge movie but quite hard going, most of the first hour and a bit is just the build up with high school teens being bitchy to each other, the guys are stereotype jocks/oafs and the girls bitchy size-queens. If watching with the GF or missus be advised a fair bit of full frontal female nudity and a quite graphic rape scene, the latter even had me squirming a bit. The revenge section when it comes is quite satisfying though. A reminder that early to mid 80's America had its seedy side, not all Tron and good natured Grease type gangs going around.

Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds.

I'm didn't know what to expect from this one, but it really blew me away. At 140 minutes, this adaptation of the popular South Korean manhwa series of the same name is shorter than the usual South Korean movie, though you won't really notice because the visuals and plot are just so compelling.

Watched this yesterday based on your review, and wow, brilliant. So much better than a lot of the dross Hollywood pumps out

A deserved 8/10

Also watched Beware of Mr Baker

A compelling biopic of Ginger Baker, one of the best drummers of all time.

I'm pretty sure he was bonkers before he started consuming massive amounts of heroin, cocaine and LSD :p

Gripping from start to finish 8/10

Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) - 7/10

A light-hearted and entertaining story from the Star Wars universe.

The plot is predictable and the film lacks that spark of greatness, but it’s still a fun adventure with a good cast of familiar and new characters.

Good acting, great music, and superb special effects throughout that really bring the film to life, although the editing between some of the scenes is a bit abrupt.

The Cell - Part bizzare and visually intriguing thriller, part terrible Jenifer Lopez vehicle. Worth a watch for the visuals but otherwise seems like a waste of good ideas.

There is one particularly dumb and pointless scene near the start with Lopez shown smoking weed in her house and showing off her body... just totally gratuitous. The film’s resolution of plot is also deeply annoying and makes the better aspects of the film redundant.

Still, worth a watch just for the intriguing, non-sensical visuals. Also, Vince Vaughn is fairly decent in his straight faced role.

5/10

Geostorm 2/10

And it only gets that high of rating because I am in a good mood right now. I really like disaster moves and, usually, can let a lot of things slide when watching them. But, Geostorm, has no redeeming features at all. Terrible acting, No likable characters. No Characters that you love to hate either. No sense of danger, no tension. By the end of the movie I was hoping the storm would win and wipe the whole lot out. The director had one chance to save the movie, well maybe save is the wrong word to use. The director had one chance to stop the movie been a complete and utter train wreck but He chickened out. See Spoiler.

He should have killed off Gerard Butler's character at the end. He should have been blown up with the station.

My advice, don't ever watch it. Not even if you like watching bad movies. It's instantly forgettable.

the film is bad but the visuals are pretty good.

Three Billboards - 8/10

First half was 10/10, really amazing storytelling and everything felt original. Second half let it down a little but still great. It should have won the Oscars for both picture and director instead of The Shape of Water.

I really enjoyed this, not my usual type of movie but I think Sam Rockwell was brilliant, or maybe he is just good at playing a***holes like in the Green Mile. Just a quality film all round.

Watched game night , guessed what was going to happen in the first 10 minutes or so so pretty predictable but all the same it was an. Enjoyable film, easy to watch and some good funny bits. Not something I'd watch again but something I'd recommend.. 7/10

GOing to give this a go this week :)

Alison on amazon prime. I won't score it as it's difficult to judge as it's more documentary but what a horrendous ordeal that lady went thru.
The rapist/attempted murderer should have had his bits hit with a hammer after that till they looked like mince and then every finger and toe for his comment at the end.
Hope they end their days in prison
