Well if that is the case certainly wasn’t any smoke. On the subject of the valley pipe, isn’t there a method when the engine doesn’t require to be fully stripped down? Isn’t there a method when you remove the water pump then you slide another pipe in? Sounds like a bit of a bodge but I read a few articles on it, when I thought it was only the 645.

Yes, there is a stent that can be fitted. It's by a company in the US called BimmerFix: https://bimmerfix.com
If you're doing the stent then do the water pump at the same time as it has to come off to fit the stent.

Hey folks, thought I'd share one of my Nordschleife laps in the M3 here with you. It's not especially fast, I'm not pushing the car anything like 100%, probably not even 75% (the Nordschleife is an unforgiving place), and I'm still learning both the track and car, so no judgements!

How do you find the convertible 650i, Rilot? I've been looking at these for the last few months and will be seeing one this week in rag-top form although I would prefer the coupe personally as I have never had a convertible I'm unsure how I would get on with it overall.

Don't think you were even at 50% of what the car could do

- but I don't blame you one jot. As you said, things can go wrong quickly on the ring and the last thing you'd want is an expensive car smashed to bits with no insurance.

Indeed, but the video can be fairly deceiving about speed. For example, on that run I was 135mph over the crest at Schwedenkreuz...the car can could easily do 160mph+ over that though if I had the balls!

F11 5 series or F15 X5? Planning a new car and have been planning a new 5 series for ages, but a few people have pointed out the X5 had more space and a better choice of engines.I've not driven an X5 yet so need to try it out.

What's the limit (mileage/duration) for going over when a service is due from a warranty perspective? My brake fluid is due before the end of July - I've got it booked in tomorrow but I can no longer make it, so i'll need to rearrange for it to be done in the next 1-2 weeks. Will this be an issue? Realistically I won't be driving more than 100-200 miles.

No. They're reasonable with it. Plus it's only brake fluid. From a mechanical point of view it doesn't really impact anything so they'd struggle to argue it.

The X5 is basically the same car but can be as much as 10 grand more than the equivalent 5 Series. Up to you if you think it's worth it.

With the exception of the M50d which we don't get here the engine choice is bigger in the 5 than the X5.

I think I'd prefer to keep my 10k in the bank but will still drive one to see what it's like.

Thanks - after a quick look around various forums the general consensus is that you have 1000 miles as a grace period to get it booked in before impacting warranty.

I don't know but I can't really see it being an issue...just ask the dealer when you re-arrange your service appointment

Travel may be going way up again. Talk to me about 123D's. Being a twin scroll turbo diesel BMW I'm assuming there will be issues..? Are the auto boxes any good? Do they actually achieve the 60MPG extra urban they are touted to?

If you stick to 70mph and leave good follow distances so you can minimise brake/accel... yeah you can hit the magical 60... I’d plan for an average closer to 50 though.

Never ever got anything like 60 out of that shape 1 series. Nasty inside, polarising looks on the outside, imho one of the worst BMWs ever made.

Plus all the fun of the N47 engine.

Fair enough. Inside they are fine, depends what you are expecting. Its nicer than anything I've had. Externally I like them. It would be a coupe rather than a hatch. Whats up with the N47 engine..?

I assume thats the same engine as in the 120D and the E9X 320D as well?
