BMW and M Power Owners

What's the consensus on older BMWs with higher mileage? Looking to replace my 04 Focus 1.6 and saw a few 06-08 1 and 3 series with about ~90k on the clock. Price seems to be 3k-4k.

As long as you go for a well cared 6-cylinder N52 engine, you can find some decent examples of E90/92s in that budget.

Just be prepared to do a full inspection of the car and budget for maintenance/servicing, as it's not a Lexus.

Which engines? A lot of the 4 cylinders in the 1 and 3 series from the E87 & E90 era are absolute ***** and are to be avoided

A decent 6 cylinder E92 for 3k?![/QUOTE

It's been mostly E87/E90 I've been looking at. E92's seems to be north of 4k where I'm at

He said £3-4k budget.

(edited: bad example)

Not saying it wouldn't be the top end of the budget, or that it would be easy to find or cheap to maintain.

So like I said, not worth the bother. Tatty, life expired and with 8 increasingly less careful owners. You'll get a far better car for 3k if you ditch the need for a posh key ring.

I agree that premium badges are generally bad buys for a budget conscious customer. The low entry point is misleading people into thinking they're getting a bargain.

This seems like a half-decent example.

Probably just end up with a newer less mileage Focus when the time comes :D

This 0% on all 5 series in stock for delivery this month means I have my local dealer pricing a 40i and 30d. After the E class (rip) it's the only viable alternative.

G series 540i on 0%? Let me know what they come back with? I'm planning to buy a new or newish car soon and intend to keep it for at least 5 years. I've been thinking about a late 530d as 535i F11's are hard to come by, but if there's good deals to be had on the G then I'd be interested to find out.

I don't think 0% is some sort of unmissable bargain opportunity - the standard rate is typically 3-4% anyway and the funding for 0% is likely to have come out of existing margin anyway - ie you'll probably end up having to pay more for the car than you might otherwise have been able to negotiate.

Often you'll find they offer 0% instead of a larger deposit contribution. No such thing as a free lunch!

No it never is really but always worth exploring.

On the 520d it's including the discounts too, esp to get it to the 399£ pm.

According to my carwow it's showing 0% and total 24% discount on a 530d so price is 36k.

Waiting for dealer to confirm.

For the 5 series specifically, it looks like the dealer contribution is £750 better than it was 3 months ago and the finance is better, too (0% now, 2.9% 3 months ago). Definitely worth a look.

Toying with the idea of a brand new G30 520d based on the finance incentives (£3k+ contribution and 0% APR).

Trying to keep the car down under £40k to avoid the higher VED rate, this is what I've come up with:
  • 520d engine (would consider 520i too)
  • Metallic - Mediterranean blue
  • Dakota leather - Ivory white/ Black world
  • 18" light V spoke alloy wheels - style 684 + Run flat tyres
  • Harman Kardon hi-fi speaker system
  • Front sports seats
  • High beam assistant
  • Model designation deletion
  • Door sill finishers with BMW Individual designation
The offer I have received is £33k for a car with an OTR of £41k.

What do you guys think?

Will you be satisfied with those engines? Are you sure that you you won't find yourself wanting something with a bit more performance?

Not sure. My other option is a 3 year old F10 530d, which I have test driven already and really liked. I haven't had a chance to test drive the G30 yet, but I hear the new B47 engine does a good job of fixing the previous one's issues.

It would be a trade off between performance/cost and the perks of owning a brand new vehicle with the latest tech and spec that I want (or rather can afford).

I am coming from an 2012 F30 320d auto (N47 engine), which is not very well equipped (except for standard leather seats/wood trim), doesn't have any decent tech (no SatNav, base audio), isn't the most comfortable (the standard seats are letting it down), suffers from harsh ride, road and engine noise, yet it's still a very well rounded car in most aspects.

Just double checking, but you are aware that if the price before discounts is over £40k, you're still going to be stung?

The OTR before discounts is ~£41k, but VED is charged before the OTR fees are added. The spec above comes up to £39,985 before the OTR charges. :)

Alternatively, I was thinking about replacing the 18" alloys with Variable Damper Control for superior ride quality, but I'm not sure I would like the looks of it with standard alloys.

Any feedback on the spec and value is appreciated.

They are not much different really - its not that new as it was in the F10 from 2015 onwards. The 3.0d is much nicer.

Why the Individual door sill finishers?
