BMW and M Power Owners

Any feedback on the spec and value is appreciated.

Depending on how long you're keeping the car, could choose the dampers and get the wheels later, if that keeps you under the 40k mark? Can then use the smaller ones over the winter with winter tyres.

When I purchased my E39 the stereo wasn't playing through a couple of the speakers so I swapped it out for another genuine E39 stereo and, same problem, but with different speakers this time.

Wanted to keep OEM look but there's no way I was going to throw too much money at getting it set up, so I opted for a Sony head unit. £90 including the wiring harness and fascia.

Now it plays through all of the speakers! :)

Pretty decent sound, too.

You can buy android head units for the E39 ;)

I've seen some Apple car play versions too, but all of them seem quite pricey and really, any money that I throw at this car won't be recouped at all.

Having some issues with the bluetooth mind. The music plays fine on Spotify but then plays a second of music every four or five seconds. Aux is fine, but seems like the bluetooth module is playing up. If I disconnect the bluetooth and reconnect, the issue is solved, until I turn the car off and back on again, where it then returns.

Probably the wrong place, but any ideas?

Warranty renewal time for my LCI M135i. Quote has come in at:

Comprehensive with £0 excess and emergency service - £633
Comprehensive with £0 excess and no emergency service - £533

Comprehensive with £100 excess and emergency service - £493
Comprehensive with £100 excess and no emergency service - £411

Comprehensive with £250 excess and emergency service - £403
Comprehensive with £250 excess and no emergency service - £320

Named Component and Driveline Warranty obviously cheaper, worth considering either of those at all?

I'd go comprehensive every time. Would be irritating paying a good percentage of those prices only to find you have an issue not covered. Presumably the last one should say £250 excess too :p Otherwise that last set is a no brainer!

I'm swaying towards the comp with £100 excess and no emergency service or equivalent at £250 excess to be honest. I can easily renew my old AA cover for £20-30 for a year, saving a fair chunk. No requirement for cover in Europe nor a hire car as work is flexible.

You actually get standard recovery included in the warranty - they'll come out to the car and recover to the nearest dealer if they can't fix it.

Ah yes - so it does. Thank you!

Yes. A facility for UK roadside recovery only - Warranty Assist - is included with BMW Insured Warranty.

Please note that this service is limited to recovery to the nearest retailer within the UK only and is not a replacement for the full assistance services and benefits provided by BMW Insured Emergency Service at home, elsewhere or on the road in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Continental Europe. BMW Insured Emergency Service cover is available as an option with all BMW Insured Warranty policies.

Any one, on here owned a 650i (2005)? Iv been looking at changing my car and I fancy something with a bit of pace. Started off looking at 335i’s, but I really like the idea of a v8 before they no longer get made, iv tried a cls500 what was lovely and now a 650i very different beast. I have done a bit of home work on them but wondering if any of you guys have owned one, what they are like to live with?

I have one
If you are good at spannering then they are OK to run but there will come a time when you have to get the valve-stem seals done. If you can find a garage with the tool then expect to pay £1k. If your local garages want to remove the heads to do the job then factor £2.5k.
Put it this way. I've recently replaced the CCV diaphragms, MAF, and VANOS solenoids. Because I did the work myself it cost me £200 ish in parts. Add a 0 to that to have a garage do it for you.

They are based on the E60 5-Series and so many parts are common to both models and most independents can work on them with no real issues.

Stuff that can fail:

CCV diaphragms and any of the associated tubing (manifests itself as poor running and smoke)
Valve stem seals (white smoke at startup or when revving after being idle for a minute or 2)
Factor in a transmission fluid change if it's not been done and the car is around the 80k mark
Water pumps fail
VANOS solenoid seals fail (poor low-speed running and rough idle)
Rocker-cover gaskets fail (causes smoke and poor running. Easy job you may think but factor on 5 hours just to get the covers off and another 5 to put them back)
Valley pipe (car leaks water from a weep hole at the front of the engine. BMW will want to strip the entire motor to fix (£7k+) but a stent is available that will sort it for a few hundred.

That's the major stuff but you're going to have lots of little niggles I expect as you're talking about a hugely complex car that is 13 years old.

I'm very happy with mine but if I wan't happy to get my hands dirty I would not be running one as I know that they can throw up some crippling bills.

I am happy to work on most cars, I remember doing CCV pipes on my 320i. I was a little disappointed as the seller had obviously warmed the car up before I had arrived, what’s is far enough most people do when trying to sell a car. So couldn’t test for the valve stem seals.
So it’s mostly the usual gaskets etc on a bmw, that is fair enough. The valley pipe, I thought that only a issue with the older 4.4 on the 645i?
The seller had the transmission filter, sump etc all done recently. The car seem drive lovely and pulled very well. Had Full bmw history up to 110k and last service at 115k at a Indy. Car could do with a little TLC a few scratches etc. Was thinking about getting someone to valet it, using some cutting compound to bring it back to life. The other downside was the wing mirror attachment plate was bubbling, from I have read this is common?

Valve stem seals will manifest when the car is warm. Start it and let it idle for a minute, then rev to 3000rpm. If it smokes the seals are shot.
The valley pipe is on all of the N62 engines from the *45s to the *50s.
