No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Anyone else find this game to be badly optimised? I have a 980ti and FPS fluctuates between 60 and 10fps on a regular basis even at 1080p. When it drops below 20 it becomes really unplayable. I've set NumHighThreads and NumLowThreads both to 4 in the config file to match my i5 2500k. My pc plays every other game I have fine.

I'll load up afterburner and check, anything specific happen when it hits 10fps? Overcrowded screen etc?

Tip for the terrain manipulator:

Scroll wheel up and down on the mouse effects the size (smaller or larger)

Press Z to enter the manipulation menu, can change the material there too.

It can happen when a planet is first generating but even after being on the planet a few minutes and the area around me has loaded, the fps still drops really low when just walking around. Nothing running in background outside of the game.

Just the nature of the game engine and procedural generation I think. 1080Ti solved my problems which says a lot about the power needed.

Few images, heading to bed now.

Repaired this ship after landing ASAP and hiding in a cave from sentinels. Stroke of luck really, straight down onto the planet and saw this!

Same card, Try setting vsync off in the menu and max fps to 90.
vsync is just broken on this game (least for me), and seting max fps to 60 seems to make it play closer to 30, despite fraps saying 60, it just feels slugish. Almost as if 90 fps limit is actaully 60 and 60 is 30 in the game.
With max fps 90 and vsync off, it's mostly pretty smooth sailing. For some reason Vsync on gives me the worst screen tearing I have ever had in a game.

At 1440p 980ti has no problem maintaining 60 - with Anti Aliasing off (looks better imo, else super blurry image), @ 1080p you should be super fine.

It's what makes it the ultimate time sink, chill game.
Just when you think you have seen it all, it throws something new at you.

If you could change the exosuit voice to something less robotic.
If the HUD displayed capacity in numerals rather than a white bar. Like 978/10000 Life support remaining.
If there was a toggle to auto recharge items with an audible "x has been recharged"

Just a few things i would like :)

Bought it tonight after Mac's WAB review.
Me and 2 mates played it for a couple of hours and really enjoyed it. Still largely clueless as we fumble through the solar system, but having fun doing it.

Game runs like a complete pig though.

Macks WAB reviews are brilliant, I pretty much universally agree with all he says.

Performance wise is pretty good at a vsync locked 60....

performance has generally been pretty good for me in this game.

....ok I've decided that I'm pretty rubbish at space battles....

Need cash so jump into my space bucket, same ship from start, and hop into space. "Harmless" threat approaches and opportunity to grab 100k in credits. I allow the pirate to approach me and my aiming system shows that the target is locked....

but whenever I shoot I find that my aim reflects that of my ever moving circular cursor position than the target lock acquisition..? Is that pretty normal and I just need to get better..? If there are several of them they seem to be pretty fast at zooming by and I hope that I'm just not figuring out the "target lock" system of shooting..?

@Vimes

Put your cursor where the small circle is in front of the ship and fire, the rockets don't lock (well, my stock ones dont) so most of the time I use the pulse thing.

Sometimes its better to not move too fast

@Delvis - thanks I'll give it a go. I thought that it was just me with the rockets not seeming to lock, how advanced is that :D

Also I didn't know that you could change from circles to squares, for the terrain manipulation tool - some of my planets have craters all over them whilst looking for buried stuff, I gave up trying to fill them in flat...!

You fill the holes back up? :D

Bugger that!
