Absolutely Nuts.

White XL ordered, still have a couple of weeks to cancel if I change my mind. My wife is actually considering the Not Pink nonXL, she likes it because it's plain :p

Guys ordering from EE I have 20% discount codes.

I am leaning towards the regual pixel. But I wanna play in the fresh first. Coming form XL or large phones and having big hands .

Biggest problem with the notch is when it's coloured the same as the app (e.g. the gmail picture above). With it blacked out it would look much better. Think of it as the clock/notification icons not eating into screen space :p

As I've had on many threads, on an android phone the notch offers nothing. It never has.

How do you mean? Surely no matter how deep the notch is, it still houses the notifications?

Interesting I don't think any specs were mentioned at all were they? These days I don't think it's much about specs, it's about the end performance and the software.

Notch aside, I really like the design. The camera does look impressive. That low light shot looked great.

Obviously the pricing is more then we'd all want, but at the same time, I think I paid £819 for the original Pixel XL. With the change in exchange rate etc as well as general increased flagship price increases, is £869 that surprising? I had hoped £799 again, but have stuck and order in for the white 64GB.

Are you an Android PR representative or something?

The notch offers precisely nothing. Basically no apps show you more content and instead just make it one colour so all you have is a ridiculously tall status bar. Heck even Google's own apps do this!

The notch exists on the iPhone because it was the only way for Apple to stretch the display to the edges, top and bottom. You'll notice the iPhone XS has no bottom chin. Yet the Pixel does rendering the notch on it pointless. They could move the screen down a bit and achieve exactly the same screen size.

Samsung are the only Android OEM to do it properly. And Google should do better than just copy what Huawei does.

I guess the key is, like the fingerprint sensor, the key will be if these things can somehow be put behind the screen.

** EDIT ** I think it's also worth noting, we get quite a good price on the Hub too. Taking into account VAT etc, we're actually getting it for around $152.

That notch looks absolutely hideous, it would annoy me every time I looked at it. The one on the previous page though, that I presume is the same phone with the ears blacked out looks a hell of a lot better, if it stayed like that on all apps the notch would probably not bother me. Extra points if they curved the tops of the visible screen. That is just too much polish to hope for from Google though :D I’ll stick with my 2XL methinks. Not perfect but the price of admission for tiny improvements is just too much to stomach now.
