Road Cycling

Has anyone ever been to a bike show that Canyon have exhibited at, and do they offer any sort of discount/incentive for buying on the day? They're at the Cycle Expo in Harrogate this weekend and might pop along as have my eyes on an Ultimate to replace my Creakondale SuperSix.

Headed out yesterday, quite late morning and things where only really just starting to warm up. 6-7 degrees but the wind was bitter coming from a northernly direction and didn't really ease up. Sun only really warming things by the time I was done but glad I choose to wear thermal shorts and windproof softshell. Only really cooked on the climbs!

Wasn't quite the route or distance I'd planned but knowing I hadn't got time for another +10 miles before being back for lunch I decided to take on my nemesis. Bredwardine hill/Arthurs stone. Allegedly the steepest tarmacked road in the West Midlands (unsure how true that still is). Steeper than all of the local 'Hill Climbs' that are ridden (and still unsure why they don't do it, maybe it's too brutal?!) :D

So I tried out the marigolds... I thought it was at least worth a chuckle.

One of them didn't make it out of the front door as it ripped before then. The other stayed intact but did have a tendency to ride up. Unfortunately (actually fortunately) I didn't get to test them properly as it didn't rain all that much and I didn't fancy literally smashing it through unknown standing water.

The boots were good though. No cold feet at all really. I'll be wearing them a lot more over the next few months I'm sure.
Haha, that's ace! Kudos for trying and reporting back!

I've long thought that a gaiter type device would work well regardless of footwear over the ankle area, but always drawn a bit of a blank on where you'd attach the 'top' of it. The calf being the size/shape it is, it would have to be above there but would then be really uncomfortable at the back of the knee...

I still like the idea of those environment PPE suit cuffs. Them or some kinda Velotoze cover which comes half way down the shoe - avoids cleats and the toe 'rip' you always get with them.

Hey, my ass is huge for comfort reasons :p

Side note, went mountain biking yesterday. Came home with what I thought was a broken finger, A&E this morning shows just bad sprain. Still can't move it or use it mind so that's a bugger!
Ouch, did see your ride, was that you on the floor in the picture? :D

Hope it heals up well!

How dare you!

I use Twitter now as I am the modern man. I received the news via a cycling weekly tweetle post.
Tweetle dum?

One of my friends is attempting to break the round-the-world record, starting this weekend in Berlin.
More info here http://road.cc/content/news/243274-scottish-cyclist-jenny-graham-aiming-set-new-round-world-record

Live tracking here: http://trackleaders.com/jennyrtw18

I'm certain that she's physically fit enough and mentally tough enough for it so as long as everything goes to plan logistically and mechanically I think we'll see a new record time.

Just a little over 1000 miles left to go. Still on-track to set a new record!

Yes, I saw them at the LBS @ The Excel in 2015 or 2016.

They were offering 5% (£150) and didn't budge further but did throw in free delivery (£35), free Bike Guard (£35 - the delivery/returns box), spare mech hanger (£20?) and a free display stand (£25). So, £250~.

Worth noting that you couldn't sit on any of the display bikes so as far as sizing went you would still need to use their online tool. Their newest lightweight offering you could man handle though. They were attentive & helpful.

They do have actual testing days too, worth following them on social media if you don't already.

I signed up to the Velo Birmingham as an incentive... went all out and bought the kit as well purely to get my ass into gear again!
That's quite an incentive, good luck! What's your plan over winter? Indoors?

I lol'd. :D

Looks just like another Veloviewer knockoff? Failing to see what extra is there... While also noticing whats missing (compared to Veloviewer).

That's pretty epic, fair play to her. She should have the record as she's 30 days within the old record time already. She could almost walk it now! :D

Not bad 'extras' on top of the 5% really. But how often do they have sales on their website similar?

TLDR; 100 Strava miles in 2 weeks gives you a LeCol £50 voucher to use on their website. Which will buy you around half of a jersey.

Sidenote: Topcashback gives 10% there though, tempting!

I literally hate my new bike (the Bowman). I know it's unreasonable to expect it to feel like my Bianchi but I just can't stand riding it. It's objectively slow and it's not my imagination! I can swap over to any of my other bikes after riding it and the difference is night and day. The Bowman feels like it costs more Watts to achieve the same speed and even on a flat road with a tailwind my quads are burning out far too quickly. I know many would be happy to have a bike like this but right now I want to smash it to pieces with a sledgehammer. I should have just bought a Canyon Endurace and put some Raceblades on it.

I assembled the bike myself so it could be due to something I've done wrong? I've had a lot of problems with disc rotor rub but apart from one time where the wheel was stopping after a couple of revs can it really make that much of a difference? I can't figure out where else in the system could be causing resistance. It's a heavy bike at 10.1kg but my TT bike is 10.5kg and that doesn't feel slow. In terms of bike position I've set it up exactly as my bike fit describes but it seems to hit my quads really hard.

Really suffering heavy buyer's remorse. :(

performance wise
brakes dragging slightly? over-preloaded bearings?

fit wise, go through it all again, I've made plenty of wrong assumptions using saddle noses instead of the sit bone point etc. Also, give the q-factor a look

Winter cycling is my favourite so I'll be out and about, will be grabbing my bike on Friday as I'm not home this week and the training starts again this Saturday :)
I played about with a Tacx Neo a few weeks back at Evans and wouldn't mind having one for indoors, so quiet.

Also good to see that Birmingham is keeping it's great reputation by stealing Geraint's trophy from the NEC...

They just got a £2.35 million investment. Perhaps they'll be able to lower the prices with it.

https://www.bikebiz.com/business/le-col-secures-2-35-million-investment
Doubtful. They're looking to corner the Rapha market now they've sold out.

They just got a £2.35 million investment. Perhaps they'll actually design something themselves rather than copying Rapha and changing to induce vomiting

Fixed.
Fixed your fix.

Has anyone actually got LeCol shorts and able to directly compare them to Rapha? I'm quite tempted to do it myself. Although I hate the look of their jerseys the shorts look good.

Really suffering heavy buyer's remorse. :(
Gutted to hear this mate, sure it's not just the wheels/tyres? Do you have tyres you've ridden on your other wheelsets you could swap across to check how they feel? Know anyone with some better disc wheels you could borrow to try?

I'd offer you my Zipps for the weekend if you where closer! :(

Shamrock,

Unfortunately it is the bike. My winter hack my pinnacle is exactly the same. Pretty much same fit but chuck on all the guards, rubbish wheels, draggier heavier tyres etc it soon tkaes you down a bit. I just go by power all year round and just accept if I'm out riding with others, it is going to be tougher.
