What film did you watch last night?

Bad times at the el royal. 9/10

I loved it. Everyone acted superbly. Although Dakota just reminds me of 50 shades of grey no matter what she does.... :P
Great little back stories. Felt like a Tarantino film, but a good one....

My film of the year so far I think...

Hold the Dark.

What an utter mess of a film. So much potential, but ultimately it didn’t know what it wanted to be. Murder mystery, supernatural thriller, Inuit mystical malarkey? Kind of sorta tried to be a bit of all but failed at being anything really other than a film where a load of people die.

I think a lot of people will get more out of it on a rewatch, once some things are made clear.

While i loved it, and generally hate movies that over explain themselves, i can see where some of the confusion comes from. It's important to note that Saulnier wrote his earlier movies but only Directed this one. HTD is adapted from a book that goes more into certain details that were only hinted at in the movie. The incestuous nature of the relationship, for example.

The thing i see most people getting hung up on is why he chased her but didn't kill her. The answer is simple. It was never his intention to. He was only interested in protecting her and killing anyone who was a threat.

There is of course some good old fashioned Native folklore and mysticism thrown in, but i liked that. Some people did not!
I think you’re giving the film more credit than it’s due.
While it had potential, it never really followed through on any of the ‘hints’ it kept dropping. Ultimately it was just a murder fest with a semi soppy ending.

Antman & The Wasp

Gorgeous effects, but not much else. Ok, but not a patch on the first, humour missed the mark very often. Loved Lee's cameo though :D

6/10

Summer of 84 - 7/10

Bit of a coming of age, 4 kids over the summer wanting to be the Hardy Boys!

Was listed as a horror i think and after a pretty slow start i was wondering why, but it finished with a superb ending i thought. Really dark

We enjoyed this film too :)

Starts out like an episode of stranger things but ends up very dark.

I saw 'A Star is born' at my local odeon with my wife last night.

She was in tears by the end, but I couldn't really enjoy it as the seat was so uncomfortable it literally gave me ball-ache from halfway though! Never been so uncomfortable in a cinema and this is our local cinema we go to a lot.

Hunter Killer (2018) - 5/10

An ok military thriller with a passable and predictable story.

It holds your attention as it swaps between the submarine crew and the land forces, although there isn’t much tension or suspense and it does get a bit silly towards the end.

The mix of green screen, stock footage and live action scenes are a bit jarring and although the acting is ok, the characters don’t have much depth to them.

Hong Hai Xing Dong.

If you want a good action movie that lasts for nearly 2.5 hours without ever losing a single second of its frenetic pace, this could be the movie for you. It has...

* pirates
* terrorists
* hostages
* snipers
* journalists
* the Chinese Navy
* the US Navy
* Chinese commandos
* Chinese civilians
* Africans
* Muslims
* African Muslims
* Humvees
* helicopters
* drones with cameras
* explosive drones with cameras
* drones with cameras and missiles
* a tank battle
* a fictional African country
* extremely graphic violence
* a dirty bomb subplot

...and much, much more!

Although loosely based on a true event (the rescue of 225 foreign nationals and ~600 Chinese citizens from Yemen in 2015) this film is highly fictionalised, to the extent that it tells a completely different story.

Budget: $70 million; box office: $579.2 million.

I rate Hong Hai Xing Dong at 29.97 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as a stunning 9/10 on IMDB.

Cheers for the recommendation, I'll post up once I've watched it.

It includes a graphic scene of a Muslim terrorist getting repeatedly stabbed in the face. So if you're the queasy sort, be prepared to skip a few seconds here and there.

15:17 to Paris

Film about the terror attack on the train in France. It’s a 90 minute film, but for me, there’s only about 10 minutes worth of movie worthy content in the whole film. The rest is really just nothingness. An everyday life story that really doesn’t warrant a film adaptation or do enough to keep me interested. I just put up with it while I waited for the main attack scene.

Also, I was intrigued that they had used the actual people involved rather than actors. Once this intrigue had passed, I realised that they are just not actors. It was all very wooden and felt like something that a bunch of kids would film for GCSE media studies or something. All in all, not great stuff from Clint here. He’s better than this as a director 4/10.

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom 2/10.

Utter garbage. Predictable plot and villains plus their fate, two dimensional characters and actors who looked just bored with the whole thing. Made JP3 (the one with the tile salesman) look good. Also way too long for the story being told.

Halloween (2018) - 7/10

The original is my favourite slasher film so was looking forward to this. My only concern after seeing the glowing early reviews was how much can you really do with a slasher film nowadays unless they were gonna go supernatural like the originals dire sequels. Luckily they didn't but as per my initial thoughts there isn't too much you can do to really make it interesting.

However, it was well made, great score, good acting throughout, well written (aside from one point
the 'New Loomis' turn was just silly as there was no payoff - I assume he caused the crash that let my Michael out but it's never said
) and was nice and brutal, gory in some places but nothing compared to most films that really go for that factor. Wasn't that suspenseful but pacing was good although a slower start than some might expect.

It doesn't re-write the genre or anything but its just a really well made film and well worth seeing if you just want a good time.

Seen it tonight as well, it was good that they didn't dumb Myers down any, he's still able to take a beating and keep on coming. A few gory kills as well :p

Aye, that was a tonk 61 year old lol

Guess he never missed leg day whilst working out in the asylum :D

Ooh, I also watched 'The Night Comes For Us' on Netflix last night.

Violent martial arts thriller starring several The Raid actors. It isn't as well put together as The Raid and the big fights have a habit of the old enemies coming 1 at a time but it was still very brutal and enjoyable. Definitely worth a watch if you liked The Raid or are a fan of martial arts films in general 7/10.

I think the Dr thing was meant to be Loomis had passed his obsession onto him, he was clear about Myers being taken alive while in the car. Seems like he just got obsessed to the point he wanted to experience what myers did to try and understand him, pretty much says that after the sheriff gets it.

Yep I got that but considering he is killed immediately after (which I expected to happen as it is Michael Myers - aka pure evil as mentioned several times) it just seemed a bit pointless and unnecessary overall.

I did think
the motion sensor scene in the garden was really well done
