New Toyota Supra formally announced

I don't think we'll see massive tunes on the stock engine like on the old Supra though. They don't make engines like the 2JZ anymore.

In fact I can see people sticking their 2JZ in these :D

Yes they do, the one that's in this car for example. The Beemer engines will make 700+ unopened, just like a 2J..

Lots of people moaning about the 335bhp, which is understandable given the potential the engine carries. But, Toyota cars have 5 years worth of warranty so I guess they're keeping the output conservative so as to keep it running well. That said, isn't the block a closed block design with some factory forged bits? If so I can't see it being too long before some big power mods start appearing. I know of two '86 tuners that have put orders in for the new car and I can't wait to see what they come up with. :)

Fensport and Abbey?

Given the Engine is basically the same unit from an m140i I would hope a simple remap should bring about 400bhp with room to spare.

Price is off putting at just over £52k though as most people will be thinking '86 with engine and suspension mods at a much cheaper cost for a track weapon now.

The 4 pots sound interesting too, wonder how much cheaper they will be as it looks like they will be going up the 86?

Namely, two 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrols, both turbocharged but with different outputs. The Supra SZ gets a 197bhp/236lb ft version, yielding a 6.5sec 0-62mph time. Above that sits the Supra SZ-R, with 258bhp/295lb ft and a 5.2sec 0-62mph time.

For reference, the 3.0-litre straight-six that’s currently the only option in the UK possesses 340bhp/369lb ft and a 4.3sec 0-62mph time. Those Japanese spec sheets suggest the four-cylinder version will weigh up to 110kg less than the six, mind

not to mention the rear seats/space in the 86, for a set of track tyres/jerry can/etc for a track day

Yea I've had 4 tyres, a trolley jack and tools in the back of mine a few times :D

The gt86 is very light and it doesn't take a lot of tuning to it very quick, especially if you chuck a supercharger in it.

Awaiting a call from the dealer now, unsure what co lour to go for still though.

The white looks mega but I'd be lying if I didn't think the yellow was rather nice.

Also no idea how to react if I get offered the launch edition as I would like to mod and that is a no no on most limited edition cars.

Only 24 in the country getting that edition? There is a lady in the '86 frat called Faith who I think may be chosen for a launch edition given she has gone through a few '86's and heavily modified her current one which looks fantastic... she's a really nice lady to speak to as well so hoping she does get one to be fair.

i think for a car like this it wouldn't matter so long as the mods were decent and popular. the supra is a different beast to a limited edition mini

yellow looks epic! liking the blue too .

Yellow actually really suits it.

Certainly will turn some heads... as will an obnoxious sounding exhaust that makes that 3.0l growl and bang. TD, Fensport or Abbey should see to that :p.

@NathWraith Awesome! My inner JDM fanboy is chomping at the bit to actually hear this thing. Should be awesome with a few mods. You going to go down the power mod route?
