WINTER 2018/2019 - Chat thread!

Supposed to be hideously cold tonight, with snow now forecast for tomorrow evening here. Luckily I'm not back in work until Saturday.

Headlines like "Britain braces for coldest night of the winter" - it is only -3C predicted aside from some odd places that could go down below -10C in isolation - nothing at all.

Thing is, many countries with heavy snow get it it regularly so most are more prepared.
Better infrastructure, flexible employers, and requirements for winter tyres etc, plus simply more experience in driving and living with it.
I hate snow and ice, primarily because I am not used to driving in it, and the reactions of other drivers around me.

What is the latest anyway for tomorrow/Friday and the next week or so?
Seem to be signs in forecasts of slightly warmer next week, but not lasting?

Next week looking like a return to milder but I wouldn't even want to guess what is happening the week after that - the models have flip flopped between cool, mild, cool, very mild, cold and now a spread from fairly mild to some potential for quite cold LOL.

Potential for another battleground scenario at the end of next week as we look towards t+240 on the models. Warmer, wetter air will push NE from the Atlantic with much uncertainty around how it will react when it hits the colder low pressure system currently over the UK.

Will it push the colder LP out or will it slow and give some parts of the UK potentially very snowy weather.

It is frustrating - I had a good feel for the SSW knock on having the effect that is being seen over parts of the US and Canada now but I'm just not feeling it for us in the UK :( and mostly just waiting to see some definite sinking of the jet showing up.

Looks very possible now that even Southampton will see a few inches tomorrow evening/night, then again through Friday. We hardly ever see snow down here prior to last year's 5 inches or so, now again this year we get a little bit more. It's nice to see, love a cold winter.
