Are they really going to release two 16C skus for AM4? I figured one would be enough but it does give them more flexibility with pricing and binning.
You kids and your transparent cases, led lighting and disco balls... I'll keep myIt certainly qualifies as an ugly board I'll give you that, I was lucky enough not to own a Pentium 4 from that period and went with the far superior products from AMD at the time.
I really should clean the inside one day. Nah, I'll wait for Ryzen 2 before I open her up again.

The early leaks had both the 3800X and 3850X as having 16 cores.

So just a complete guess then?
Let's not forget, AMD are pretty good at sticking to the advertised TDP for their CPUs at the officially listed specifications.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is two 16c SKU's. The lower binned one with a Boost of 4.4-4.6GHz and a higher binned on with 4.8-5.0GHz boost. However we just have to wait another month and we'll know. They may even delay the release of the higher binned one too.

Agreed. They are unlikely to have lower clocks than the 2xxx series so I'd work up from there with expectations. I don't think a 10+% rise in clock speed is unreasonable so that gets use to roughly 4.8GHz. With some modest IPC improvement too I don't think the leaks will be too far off.
Whilst I agree and hate paying for aesthetic crap plastered all over boards these days for the kids, I just disable the fancy light shows and have a moan about it lol.

Well, there are cheaper boards like the Prime line that have minimal lighting zones (amongst other things). Still, this stuff sells otherwise there would be less of it. I agree it's subjective and definitely not for everyone.

Nothing to be excited about really, considering the Threadripper 2950X boosts to 4.4 GHz.
However, I don't think we need to worry about clocks to be honest. Unless there is a huge performance delta between gaming and rendering workloads, we already know an 8c/16t Ryzen 3000 chip can match a 8c/16t 4.7 GHz Coffee Lake chip and, because of the power consumption figures, we know it definitely was not pushed to the limits in terms of clocks and voltages (like Vega or R7 2700X for example). So even if it was only at 4.4 GHz (with a nice IPC bump), there must be a bit of headroom left in terms of clocks.
Pretty sure the original FX series (Athlon 64?) also had absurdly priced top-end parts. That was when AMD had a clear performance advantage though.

I can't leak the details but AMD have been showing at least two CPUs around the mobo makers. The 16C Apisak found is very likely to be one of the chips they were showing. The other one was 12 cores and really high clock speeds.
