Going by design if Max boost on 3900x is 4.6 thats SINGLE CORE max boost not all core same as in previous ryzen cpus. I'm unable to get stable max single core boost of my binned 2700x. I assume those will max out at 12x4.5 with My cooling :D Deffo ordering more liquid metal with those cpus :D
 
the sad thing is the terrible pricing will make many not upgrade because anyone on older i7s or the like has to go in to get a proper upgrade. 5820s for eg. been available for 4-5 years and only the entry 6 cores just matching and costing £200 now is a joke. 5820s at one point were 220. what bargin chips. especially if you have a good clocker.

If the latter is true then I'll agree with you.

All depends on how everything clocks though in the end.

One will be better (binned) than the other, reviews should hopefully show this. If it's like 1700X vs 1800X, i'll be paying the extra for the 3800X.

2700 vs 2700X? it is, look it up :)

During Gaming the 2700X boost all core to about 4.0 to 4.1Ghz, the 2700 is only about 3.7Ghz, this is XFR, its where the TDP difference comes from.

My 1600 all core boosts to 3.4Ghz, with a 3.2Ghz base clock, 3.6Ghz single core, 65 Watts.
 
I was looking to upgrade my 16 core 7940x. Tempted but the 3900x but at 14 core doubt will will better the 7940x.

If they have a 16 core version coming out I might sell up and get that.
 
Looking forward to the reviews but I think I’ll let others pay the early adopter tax.

Should be quite an improvement over my old and tired 4670k.

I have a theory :D
Both the CH6 and CH7 have a pre set section in the bios for different ram speeds for B-Die. This was developed between Asus and "the stilt". "The stilt" has a close relationship with "1usmus" (he developed the Ryzen Dram Calculator).
I think it is very likely the stilt and 1usmus have got together to develop a section in the bios of the CH8 that automatically reads the ram and sets the fastest or safest timings and subtimings to suit whatever ram is installed. Fastest or safest depending on user choice, much like Ryzen Dram Calculator.
I could be way off the mark here, but i don't think so :)
 
1usmus's DRAM Calc good now? It was a pile of **** in it's early stages on OC.Net :D but i see he's worked on it a lot since then.
I'd already found the limitations of my chips and RAM, early Ryzen days were fun. Here's hoping there's enough changes to keep it interesting.

The 12c 3900X would beat the 7940X, though not sure whether it would be by enough for you to consider changing just yet. IMO I'd wait for the 16c model and information on the Threadrippers.
