I was going to check Steins in, but it is pretty heavy and confusing for anime noobs (or at least it was for me!). Some shows certainly work better once you get a feel for anime and the themes within.

Also, for less colourful/zany/sci-fi, I really enjoyed Erased (Boku dake ga Inai Machi) from a 'drama' perspective.

Whats your guys opinion on dubbed vs subbed? Is the Japanese or English voice acting better usually? I noticed in Demon Slayer even though i couldn't understand a word (apart from Goodbye and Thank you, I'm on my way to becoming fluent in Japanese lol), the voice acting seemed to be very good. Like some of the demons actually sound menacing, especially the ones with a creepy laugh. I watch a lot of foreign language horrors, so am used to reading subtitles, but it's also nice to be able to sit back and relax sometimes as well.

I'm fairly agnostic.

I will try both dubs and subs and decide what actually sounds better on a case by case basis* (you wouldn't decide that X version of a play was the all time best having never seen any other version), I do tend to watch slightly more stuff dubbed (especially on repeat viewings) as I can relax more/don't have to concentrate fully on trying to read the subs at the same time as watching the action.
Modern dubs do tend to be better than older ones, and it was very rare for a dub from the 90's to be good.

*Anything obviously set in the US or the UK is more likely to be a dub view if it is any good at all.

Im going to sound like a snob but i cant watch dubbed shows as i feel the emotion and reactions come across better in the original Japanese and the dubbed versions sound.... too American and lack the impact for me.

The only dub I would recommend is Black lagoon

Pretty much me too, there are so many voice types in anime, and dubs rarely get it right, especially with iconic characters. Luffy, Franky and Brook sound awful when dubbed as an example. Plus, to me, almost all dub artists sound like the cast from Pokemon

Akame ga kill was good..until the finale left me a bit bitter and disappointed and as for dub vs original it depends on the type of anime it is and the studio.
Tenchi muyo to me I prefer it in english just because it was done in english first and then japanese, Legend of 4 kings was also good in english and Big O was pretty good too.
I've watched Digimon,DBZ,Yugioh, Gundam Wing,Macross/Robotech and Pokemon in english first like many people and then watched it in japanese and much prefer it in japanese.
Everything else I prefer japanese audio with subtitles for anime.

I prefer Japanese audio with subtitles, the Japanese voices have more emotion in them. I sometimes forget I am reading subtitles.

Just watched all of the demon slayer episodes and I can't wait for the next episode to be released!

Now to decide what to start next.. I had a quick look at attack on Titan and I know what you guys were saying about DS being well drawn now as it really shows when you compare to something older.

Attack on titan season 3 was released this year, you just need to remember there are wildly different art styles. AoT is drawn very well and when you get into the action scenes it shows it well.

If you want to see good vs bad animation look no further than Deens version of fate zero vs ufotables....ufotables is vastly better

Finished watching Bunny Drop last night, both me and the Mrs enjoyed it but wished they had made more episodes / seasons. Glad to see the Manga has 10 volumes so I have ordered vol 1.

My Japanese understanding is at a level where I can watch stuff without subtitles and get a general gist of it and I strongly prefer to watch things subbed in the majority of cases. There are a few exceptions, for example I like the dub for Full Metal Panic. I do find the Japanese voice acting to be better overall.

I had private lessons for a couple of years with a Japanese native speaker mostly using the Japanese from Zero and Japanese for Everyone books. I also watched Japanese media for a couple of hours most evening for listening comprehension (not anime mostly as that can cause other issues).

Started watching Demon Slayer last week and have caught up with the most current episode, WOW what a show, love the story, characters, music, animation, just wish the episodes were longer.

Everywherr i go it seems people are turning onto this series fairly late in the season, i think because everyone's raving about it and rightly so.

I picked up Durarara season 2 last night, another great show imo but damn i have to focus to follow the story.

Strongly recommend Durarara if anyone hasn't seen 9t

Why not anime?

I want to learn but to learn a language you really need to go all in, not dipping my toes. I was actually impressed with myself yesterday when watching Only in Japan Youtube and the guy was in a food festival and the lady in the stall asked him "Shoyu/Tare?"

In my head I thought loudly "I know what she asked!"
