39 Bodies found in Lorry in Essex

The fact they instantly arrested him for murder must mean they found something obvious which hasn't been made public yet.

You'd expect them to arrest him, but assume they broke in to the trailer and the driver didn't notice. Which is what normally happens.

No, they will arrest you immediately, if they find you as the drivers of a container truck containing 39 dead bodies.
There is no way they are not getting every word of what you say as admissible.

Why has no one mentioned a string vest yet.

I don't think it's strange.

If he went to collect the container and found it was full of dead/alive persons then nothing sticks to him.

But it's at the other end of the journey so he's been responsible for moving a container full of dead/alive persons across the country with everyone definitely being dead at the end.

Whether it sticks or not is another thing but it is his container of dead people so he gets first shot at being suspected of having all the responsibility for it.

Intentionally trying to smuggle people all round Europe in an airtight freezer just seems a bit odd though. Especially to end up in the middle of London which is one of the most policied cities in Europe.

They could stop a lot of this by having a wireless IR camera inside the trainer tbh. It's not like they are expensive. You don't even need to look inside then, just check the monitor. You could even set it up so customs can tap in to the cameras and look themselves.

I’m sorry to admit that ambivalence is my overriding emotion here.
I'm certainly not happy that these people have lost their lives, neither though am I saddened by it tbh.

A harsh view to take but here’s why....
They (the 39 deceased) will have covered countless countries before ending up here, plenty of other opinions for safe places to try first instead they wanted to get to the U.K. and have paid a high price for that desire.

Had they wanted to they could have been still alive - but safe from whatever they were fleeing - in say France for example.

If the fridge was running then they’d have died from exposure (they can easily reach-25c if set to freeze) and with it being a refrigerated trailer, even if it was switched off they would still have suffocated due to them being airtight.

Sad for those involved of course, I’m just surprised this doesn’t happen more often tbh.

Not surprised the driver was arrested, 39 corpses in the back of your wagon isn’t going to result in anything else, I doubt he’s involved directly with the traffickers, he’s just the poor sod sent to get a trailer sent over by ferry.

RIP.

Is it really any worse than stuffing people into a rubber boat made yesterday then telling them to drive up to a big ship and sink themselves.

The only thing that matters for the smugglers is that they got paid and they technically did send people off to the UK.

So it would seem to me at least, he has nothing to do with it, just wrong time wrong place. He collected the trailer at 1:10am, police arrived on scene less than 30 minutes later where the bodies were discovered. Your unlikely to freeze to death in 30 minutes or less in those refridgeration units, oxygen might have been a problem.
