The R word

Problem is.

1.Only white people can be labeled as racist.
White people own it.
White people invented it.
White people have the power.

2.Having lived in an area with Pakistani and Indian community's,Roma Slovak and Somalian I can assure you they are as much a bunch of racists to each other as any white Muppet could ever dream about.

3.Also having been racially attacked by some unsavoury characters I can tell you that white people get it back, especially white women.

Point 1 means that points 2 and 3 do not count in today's world unfortunately.

Oh believe me I know, but if people are being subtle and careful not to overtly break the rules then there's not much you can do other than engage if you want.

Nah they were referring to a specific user who constantly posts vile nonsense but never engages with the replies to their posts.

so you are saying subtle racism on these forums is ok then............... got you. So i can subtley denigrate someone on the grounds of race and mods are fine with this, but god forbid I call someone a moron or an idiot, I will get banned, no questions asked.

Mods need to sort their **** out if this is the case (which looking at some of the posts that fly really close to the edge is clearly the case)

Give us a clue

A Welsh town, Rh**

It was banned because certain folks thought it was funny to use as a reply to every single holiday thread, much like the boxing stance / letterbox / queen wasps jokes which stopped being funny years ago but continue to linger like a floater, circling the bowl for all eternity.

It’s used because it’s a shut down word. When they can’t win a conversation or discussion they scream and label. But ordinary people have had enough of all this rubbish. Race baiters, woke liberals, mass manipulated representation in adverts and films now. You can only push people so far with meaningless made up wordings. Eventually the people will bite back if you oppress them enough.

Put your misused R word where the sun doesn’t shine.

Thanks, I even got my AA Road Book out looking for 4 lettered place names beginning with R, I didn't get to Wales.

No, I think what happened in the US is a reaction to a mixture of racist paranoia and growing racial emancipation, both fostered by social media. Then, as the older traditions got shut down or swept under the carpet, patriotism grew, which people confused with racism and xenophia which fed the paranoia. The processes are symbiotic, and it reached a head with the US killing. George was a terrible person to make a martyr: a small-time aggressive crook and porn star, but the need for a martyr or a spearhead was pressing, and that need became more important than having a noble figurehead.
I don't think that should be so brief as the step between the initial outrage of police brutality against "black" people, not forgetting the empathetic and copathetic feelings from all communities within the US against police brutality itself, to what is now essentially a simplified cause for racial injustices against African Americans is an important one which has been repeatedly glossed over shamefully by those now being given a voice through afirmative guilt (Important reasons not just for racial tension but for political immorality, however that's for a different thread).

As always it is a bit of both, mixed in with the prevalence of US vs THEM rhetoric. These are complex issues and when people try and distill them to 280 character sound bites you lose perspective.
Bang on. Bang on the money.

I had a similar conversation with my wife. She's Indian/Sikh but born here, the same as you I guess. When George Floyd was murdered, I said to her, I'm glad that the problem here isn't so bad. Of course, our police don't go around murdering people, but she said that I just don't see it. She's experienced all sorts of prejudice throughout her life. Now, she has been known to over react, so I took it with a piece of salt, but she has experienced racist ******** just like you.
Unfortunately it's a much more common experience for the females.

People like myself are genuinely concerned / worried by the ramping up of illegal migration across the English Channel. When we voice these concerns we are called racist, but it personally bothers me not in he slightest. My concern and opposition to it remains, maybe intensifies, as a result. Also the flagrant disregard for social distancing and large gatherings by ethnic minorities concentrated in their regions does nothing to help the matter, especially when I see police called in "taking the knee" amongst them, and using it as a photo shoot amongst flash cars, instead of upholding the law the tax payer employs them for. Presumably it's done in a role of positive discrimination to score points amongst their peers, or in fear of the R word used against their career prospects. That's where I stand, unapologetically.
I agree with this nearly 100%, so have an almost "well said" :)
Racism is being redefined by the woke mob and people are seeing it everywhere. When you’re actively trying to detect something but there is very little of it occurring/it’s become relatively rare compared to the past then you get lots of false positives.
I think the recent trend has been hijacked and redirected, unfortunately. In regards to these forums specifically I would not suggest it is racism that is more prevalent, but bigotry has definitely become... braver, shall we say.

The left / right thing has been here as an overflow from twitters character limit (as @hood1971 more eloquently put it) and the below averages uncanny ability to regurgitate specifically designed antagonistic articles.

Right up your Rse hole.

I think it's brilliant. Not as brilliant as the cold war or the constant Isis Al Qaeda enemy threat.
Now society is turning in on its self to shred.
We don't need external threats . We can attack our own neighbor. I was hoping global warming or even a weak covid19 virus would focus humanity a bit, turns out it's the opposite.
Guess we could have a good ol' racewar?
Deffo need a new war. Hope China attacks soon in our lifetimes.

I'm not sure that we need the media to be able to determine when people are being discriminated against on the grounds of race. It's evident all around us. Denying that is being willfully ignorant.

If you're openly racist then I would suggest you seek out a lobotomy.

Who are these "ordinary" people? Are these the same people as the "silent majority"?

I often wonder as I always considered myself as an "ordinary" person but even I have been shocked by how some people feel empowered nowadays to say things which they would have been scared of saying 10 or 20 years ago as they are racist.

Personally i think the racists have just had enough of being oppressed and are all crawling out from under the rocks they have been hiding for years.

I can see this forum returning to the "good old days" of having threads ***no ***

The dog whistling started at the start of the Brexit campaign and seems to be ramping up to deflect from the fact that tens of thousands of British people have needlessly died because of the government.

Where are all these openly racist posts I keep hearing about, I never see them?

I didnt say posts on here specifically. I said people feel empowered nowadays to say things they would have been scared of saying 10 to 20 years ago,. Be that in my local pubs or shops or on FB and twitter.

All the racist posts on here get nuked by Mods thankfully (for now) so I can't quote you any of them.;)

There was one in the asylum seeker thread saying that there were too many Muslim people in the UK already.

Saddens me that people think they can get away with saying things like that here.

Social media is one of the worst innovations of recent times, it gives a whole multitude of crazies a voice. What was one person within someone's work/life radius all of a sudden becomes 10, 20 other crazies agreeing with that opinion from all over the globe. Nuke social media sites and by in large you'll eliminate the less savoury elements as humanity /western civilization (generally) has moved on from beliefs that have were prevalent 50+ years ago.

Muslims/Islam aren't a race or ethnicity, it's a religion. If the poster in question had stated they didn't want more brown or black people coming in you'd have a point.

Do you still think the semantics over whether someone is a racist or a bigot is a drop mic point anymore?

It's been done to death and is merely splitting hairs to defend an abhorrent statement.

When people stop conflating religion with race you might have a point, until then simple answer is no

Ninja edit, you probably see Christianity as a 'white' religion, whereas it's majority nonwhite judging from the lastest pew research
