ARCHIVE - *** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION *** - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION

The date that a certain competitor is giving isn't necessarily a date they've actually been given - just that they're expecting the stock. It's a bit suspicious that all the dates are exactly the same. You'd expect some variation..

I genuinely don't understand the eagerness expressed here by some to make them stop taking preorders. The way I see it is is that they will eventually be able to ship the order, and thats what I signed up for when I ordered (even though it said 23rd Sept at the time, I knew that was really unlikely). For me, that's better than having to constantly look for stock somewhere. And if someone isn't happy waiting, all they need to do is request the refund and they'll have that money back in short order. So what's the big deal here?

(And if they did stop taking preorders, the complaints would be coming from people who can't preorder and would like to join the very same queue ...)

Yeah constantly looking for stock elsewhere doesn't leave a £650+ hole in your wallet. Biggest problem here is they're taking full whack up front for cards that quite possibly haven't even been produced yet.

Something a lot of people seem to be overlooking is the power draw of these cards. The RTX 3080 is roughly 50-60% faster than the RTX 2080, but it consumes almost 100w more. This is also significantly higher power draw than that fabled AMB card, the R9 290x, that got so much stick for how much power it drew. How times have changed.

Thursday, I don't care about you
It's Friday, @Gibbo where are you!
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart

It's Friday, I give up.

But Friday, never hesitate your card is on the way! Maybe :D

Not at the moment they ran out of codes in about 30 seconds
I ordered my MSI GAMING X TRIO 3080 at 14:28 ( my order confirmation email says 15:09) I asked in web ticket and was told and confirmed my order has a watch dogs legion and Geforce now code that I'll get once card ships. So I wouldn't worry. They codes didn't go within seconds.

So Monday is here and still no update about deliveries or stock. Good that Christmas 2021 are far enough so by the time I may get the card.

I'm all for improved communication from OC but give them chance man, it's 7 minutes into the average working day.

Even if they had all the information as soon as they walked in the door, they still have to physically type it up.

Wonder why other places still give you Watchdogs Legion free when you buy a 3000 card but @OCUK don't?

Because those other places haven't totally oversold the cards. Most stopped selling after hitting 6 week forecast of stock. OCUK have potentially sold over 7 times the amount of stock against codes.

(I'm asking this out of pure interest, not trying to cause an argument) Are people actually really that bothered about the codes?
I probably won't even bother to use any code should I receive one!? I assumed most people would be of the same opinion, but looks like that's perhaps not the case??

To put it another way, if I'm in line at a well known coffee shop say, I know they can only take 1 order and 'ship' one order and then the line moves forward one step and I feel a little closer. It's nothing more tangible than that I may get mine in the next few people. Granted, if that line were 2000 long, I'd feel it a whole lot less and then I've got the choice of leaving the queue.

That is the point. Even if it were 1 card a week, you can make an informed decision. At the moment, there are no facts other than that I ordered a card that said it was coming in on the 23rd Sept. That changed, I do get it and I'm personally not impatient, just a guide would be great.

They only had 1000 codes. They are trying to get some more. As it stands none of the 3090 guys have even had the offer of codes so atleast the first 1000 3080 guys are getting them which is better than nothing.

Morning everyone!
First post (be gentle)

Been a OC customer for many years and have never had to come to the forums for anything. Service has always been prompt and perfect.

That being said...having browsed this thread almost constantly since the 19th (don't even ask about my assumed queue position...ASUS TUF non-OC), I'm absolutely staggered.

So many issues, some valid and some less so. But the near silence of customer service IS worrying. I get it...all those calm people saying 'what's the point? You want an update saying 'no stock' and none expected in the near future?'

Well....YES! Any information is better than none! Personally, I'm in no great hurry (as evidenced by my tardy order) and will keep my place in the queue. I'm also running an ancient Giga 970 since before the beginning of time, so I can afford to wait some more.

But some people can't...either through compulsion or simple finances. Telling those people to calm down and either cancel or STFU is counterproductive. Some people are saying that other retailers future stock delivery schedules (released to their customers) are just hopeful.

I disagree.

I would find it absolutely incredible if OC are not aware of a) Stock that is enroute from their suppliers and b) the numbers involved. The alternative is that OC are sitting in their loading bay waiting to see if a truck turns up, and that is more fantastical that some of the posters on here....

So....put the information out there. Not what just came in the door. What you are expecting to come in. No exact numbers required...hell, make an arbitrary small (10-50), medium (50-100) or large (100+) statement for each expected delivery. And if you're really risk averse, put a damn disclaimer on saying 'expected deliveries are subject to shipping issues, pandemics, magnetic fluctuation or rabid weasel attack' :)

No information...and even current 'this is what went out the door today' information is going to continue to wind people up even further. It's not rocket science, and whilst I can think of a couple of scenarios for the radio silence we're experiencing, providing some basic advance information might go a little way to calming things down, reducing the phone calls/webnotes/emails and generally making life better for everyone.

EDIT: And to another poster who just said 'it's just after the weekend'....given how much of an utter cluster**** this launch has been in general, added to the feeling displayed here and the general lack of communication...would it really have hurt to have someone log on to the forum, post a message and then log off. Even a placeholder ' we're aware you guys are about to start eating your firstborn...after the weekend, we will share our planned updates going forward' would have been a smart move. Well, unless you have absolutely no plan going forward and are just winging it....
