The Ampere RTX 3090 Owners Thread

I had exactly the same issue with a 2 year old seasonic prime ultra gold 850w power supply. The system would just shut off randomly under high load, It never had an issue previously including SLI gtx1080's! I replaced mine with the 1300w seasonic prime gold and haven't had a single crash yet.

Two 1080's !! leads me to think that our previous power supplies weren’t technically faulty, more likely not compatible with the 3090. While looking online to find a fix for the ramdon restarts, seasonic and evga psu's where being mentioned with similar problems. Mostly the ones rated 850w.

Got my 3090 FE today, nice little thing.

Whats the story on undervolting? What is a normal stock voltage? mine goes to 1.025 - 1.0680.

Watched a video that suggested to undervolt to 850mv with 1850 clocks but timespy crashes, I think I got a lemon.

Edit: got it stable with 875mv and 1830 clock (which actually boosts to 1845)

Coming from vega 56 this is a nice upgrade.

With undervolting and overclocking it's best to at most use someone else's figures as n estimate or starting point. Everyone's cards will perform differently to a degree.

It's all a bit trial and error. I got my highest Port Royal under volting....
Just gotta watch the video experiment what works with your card.

So far after getting my 3090 and all the messing my 7 year old is now happily playing Rocket League... 43 Deg temp 22% usage... can't get near the dam card to use it lol.

I had a 1500W EVGA PSU, it was total "£$%, I was so disgusted with it that I threw it in the bin.

EVGA are not the company they were 5 years ago.

Totally agree, that's why I avoided their FTW3 Ultra cards after reading the nightmares people were having with them and the rubbish components on their board and looks like a budget board sold as a ULTRA..

I was also looking for a new PSU for my sli setup and saw some 1600w EVGA PSUs and avoided them and went with a Bequiet 1500w instead as didn't like the idea of having to deal with EVGA the way they are also behaving towards the UK with supplies of stuff and the never ending issues with their new stuff.

Like you said mate not the same company anymore they are basically living now on peoples last good memories with them but that's 5 years ago, now they are taking too many shortcuts and even got caught with their pants down with the 3000 series and they cheeped out so much on the boards they had to recall them all because of the caps at back they put all cheap caps and pretended they never sent any to customers that way. Reality was they got caught stopped selling them sent them back to add the new caps that's why they have been one of the worst to supply cards.

Thanks for the update guys, will steer clear of them now. I did think they were up there with the Seasonics and Super Flowers but think I will stick to what I have and just wait for one of these two to crop up on a deal instead of risking it from another name. I do rate Corsair from the past so may entertain a 1000w ish jobby if that comes up too.

How you getting on buddy? Much gaming yet?

I bought Death Stranding today so gonna give that a whirl. It also has the DLSS so if I get a moment will check this out and see if it blows me away..

The corsair HX and HXi are the best PSUs corsair makes in my opinion better than their AX and AXi range. Then I rate their TX for a cheaper option.

Great PSUs from corsair, my HXi 1200w I have in my system now ran both my 3090's in sli not a single problem apart from me having to use a pcie riser to get the two on the 4 slot spacing, till my MSI x570 godlike appears this week hopefully. From the wall I measured 985watts with the SLI setup with 370w bios on both cards , didn't dare run the 420w bios yet on sli as dont want anything to go bang.

Now have everything for my new system apart from the motherboard ..

What makes the HXi better then AXi? I have AX 1600i and HX 1200i (well had, the capacitors which mange inrush current below so sold brand new HX1200i I got back from RMA) most reviews show the former pretty much performing better across the board from ripple capability to transient response. Unless your talking about the much older AX models?

Not that it matters at this efficiency point/ But what makes the 1600i worse performance wise the say HX1200i

Yeah that claim doesn't make sense. ignoring value, the AX series should be objectively superior as it has slightly higher effiency

The older AX1200 PSUs had a bad rep but the newer ones are fine.

Is anyone running NVIDIA broadcaster ? I've noticed why my GPU temps were quite high on idle and constantly boost clocking, it was because of NVIDIA broadcaster.

It was pulling about and additional 50-60w, making my fans spin constantly, the backplate of the GPU very hot and overall idle temps 10c more than it should be. Quit the app and temps drop instantly!!

Morning all.

So my 3090 FE has been a roller coaster for sure...

Recap, my EVGA 1200w PSU that has already had 2 x RMA in 2 years needs a 3RD!!! It just cant run a 3090 FE, trips out soon as ANY load in the card happens, I even had JUST the Card/MB+Nvme running still pop!

So plugged an old 500w psu into the second rail on the 3090 fe and (mostly) not had a problem, only 1 pop last night after crazy clocking, awaiting my 3rd RMA and PSU's to actually come in stock looking at a
Corsair HX1200i or 1000W Corsair AX Series AX1000, what comes in stock first I guess, also torn the extra 200w slightly less efficient but has more amps on the rails vs digital delivery less amps and less watts.... not sure atm.

The card after many many many hours watching my son play Rocket League at 165fps g-sync 20% usage.....

I got to play eventually!! :D:D

Under volting seems what my card likes, no matter how much you try and brute force the voltage or amps it just doesn't allow boosting.
To give an example I could get 1980mhz @ 843mV but only 1650mhz @ 981mV.

The way the card boosts as well is kinda weird I'm guessing some sort of hidden algorithm that you have to dance around on your own cards.
Like I could set a given Mhz+mV and it would boost 2 bins higher and crash or I could set the same mV+ slightly higher or lower Mhz and observe a different boost behaviour or even an almost locked Mhz, so finding the sweet spot on your cards going to be time effort and learning where the girl likes being tickled :D:D.

Im in no way an expert or going to set records but with late last night and early morning testing Im happy with what I achieved so far.

Stock Port Royal I was seeing boosting to 1850mhz and scores around 12600 with temps hitting around 68c.

My best Port Royal after tinkering and it's stable as in can run a burn test for an hour or play games on it, scored 13918 Core @ 2010Mhz + 900mV (undervolt), memory +750, 56 °C!! Stock cooler custom fan profile never went over 50% which is quite!

Just ran the Horizon - Zero Down benchmark, all settings max it floats around GPU 70% usage, 270w draw and 51c... 120fps locked.
I mean for a stock card its pretty bloody good im pleased, I cant see me getting more fun for £400 more for a Stix OC, rather put that into a custom water loop.

Hope this helps.

Yeah noticed the same
It's the Microphone part which does it, it's always running and causing the card to use 110~w
The Camera effect turns on and off depending on if something uses it, with it on I'm around 113~w
Both on is the same, 113~w
Off around 30w

I've not tested the impact to framerates yet but I've been using the Microphone part of it for the last week. It's crazy good, I can eat crisps etc and have no mic activation

I agree the filter works very well but needs to be "optimised" or at least maybe activate only when an app that uses the microphone is on.

Yes I noticed this too at the weekend, it was idling unusually high at 39° which was around 10°c above normal. I remembered I’d been trying out broadcast with the noise removal. Shut it down and idle went back to normal.

I've just got a PNY xlr8 gaming revel (etc) 3090 and i was expecting it to be massive, but it isn't that much bigger than my gigabyte 1080ti. In fact I just put an EK waterblock on it and it is smaller than the 1080ti with water block.
Not at all what I was expecting in terms of size.

My expectations were set mostly by reviewers and images of large 3090 cooling solutions.
