It’s all kicking off in Bristol

My point exactly, look at the idiots doing it, I bet none of them have even looked at the bill, just their pals opinions on Facebook. Lock them all up.

Theres a time and a place for real protest and this isnt it.
To me they look like bored left wing students wanting to break a few windows

Peaceful and legitimate protests appear to frequently get highjacked by nutters.

I used to go to the odd protest when I was younger - but would never want to go near any of them these days.

I bet none of this lot smashing windows and burning vans give two ***** about the proposed bill

Genuinely curious how people are concluding this, why wouldn't people who like causing violence at protests not care about this bill.

No opinion on the bill, but Bristol seems to be a huge magnet for these undesirable types, rivalled only by Brighton & parts of London, & I support the police in robustly dealing with them.
Yeah its where they dragged that statue down its full of dungaree wearing lefties who go around on skateboards remember when they ripped that statue down see the state of them lol.

Most are thinking "Kill the Bill" is installment number three in a Tarantino movie franchise.

I also attended protests, Maggie Thatcher, milk snatcher was a popular one. We marched along with our banners, shouting and chanting. It felt good and we certainly did not smash anything up. Similarly I would not want to be doing that in this crowd today.

I would have thought the free-speech types in this thread would be criticising the fascist bill that went through parliament? I guess it was all projection.

Well done to the rioters on an utterly counter productive move.

General public support for the bill will now increase further.

*Slow hand clap*

If the public are that frail that they act against themselves out of spite, then they deserve authoritarianism.

I can't see any posts (apologies if missed) saying people actually support their rights to peaceful protest being eroded is a good thing. There's a lot of stuff in the new bill, some of it is sane - but probably has/needs it's own thread as there's a lot of stuff in it - not just protest type stuff

Student population presumably, same as Brighton. Bristol had a large number of covid cases for the SW almost all related to the University halls of residence there.

The idea that any act is acceptable as a protest, irrespective of the impact, disruption or danger it causes, isn't one generally accepted by the public.

I don't support the crime and policing bill, it goes too far, but if the public are asked to choose between the current lack of protection and Draconian protection, they may well choose the latter. Especially when those opposing it set police vans on fire.

I'd love to know how Andy Ngô has concluded:

- they're all far left
- they've taken over a police station from the outside
- bristol is the 'portland' of the UK
- they're linked to BLM and ER because they handed out fliers for the event

They’re pretty open about it!

‘Comrades’

The Dutch government organised and paid for a music festival to monitor and track the spread of covid 19. The UK government organised a peaceful demonstration in a city with full CCTV coverage. Same thing really.
