*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

I've had a terrible few weeks and was 15st 11 before the weekend, then had a weekend away with friends eating fast food and lots of it. I dread to think what I weigh right now. I've not even exercised much, but at least got out for a 56 mile ride this morning. I'll try and spend a few weeks being good and bringing the weight back down.

Mines still dropping off, I'm running 5km six times a week at the moment and have cut sugar to a minimum (I never ate sweet things anyway). Put a pair of work trousers on today for a meeting in the office for the first time in 8 weeks and they were falling down as a walked, had to take everything out the pockets.

Still haven't got on the scales though, still not brave enough and tbh I'm trying not to because I've been down that road of weighing myself daily and know where it ends. I used obsess about it and ended up weighing myself after having a poo, it wasn't a healthy place to be.

Anyway.

I just about only weigh myself after pooping, first thing in the morning

Haha i thought that yesterday.

I always wake up, weigh myself in the en-suite, then head upstairs to my office with a coffee and start working. About 30 minutes later i have the morning poo and wished i weighed myself after that point!

I only mentioned my weight to show it's not the be all and end all of health, but it is a part of the puzzle which is why I've dropped 10lbs since.

Weighed myself this morning on my scales at 10.63 stone or 67.5 KG, then went to my GP about an hour later and was 67 KG on his scales. So my scales are accurate enough in regards to weight measurements.

I never questioned their ability to weigh.

Always wait for that first poop. If it doesn't come before breakfast, it's not a weigh in day :)
I don't think I've ever managed a poop before breakfast

Since I hit 41 a few weeks ago I have noticed that I'm struggling with my weight and finding it so hard to keep the weight off.

I'm not necessarily fat but I try so hard to eat healthy every day and have done really well for the past month.

But then I got really stressed about my dog being sick this evening, so found the chocolate I had been given for my birthday in the fridge and before I knew it, I'd eaten the lot. :(

And it was a lot of chocolate.

Now I just feel full of self loathing and stupid for giving in.

So found this thread and reading your experiences is really helpful so hope you don't mind me popping in every now and then :)

Since March I've gone from 14st10 to 13st exactly (5ft11) using MFP. Bit of nutrition advice if anyone has any, was going to start a thread but thought I'd ask here first. My weight has always been up and down and I want to get it under control for once, although realistically the only problem I have is my belly. As of right now it's the only issue I have, I can literally grab it with two hands still, it's soft fat if that helps.

Is this just a case of keep losing weight (12, 11, 10, 9 stone?) Lowest I've been is 11st9 a few years ago and the issue was still the same which made me stupidly lose motivation and gain a lot back. I'm already being told I shouldn't lose any more weight but obviously I'm just being judged with clothes on. I've recently took up running which I'm enjoying and want to take it a bit more serious so ideally I would like to eat more calories if anything once I get my distances up. I'm not really in a great position to join a gym which I know I need to do next. Or is it time to look at what I'm eating a bit more thoroughly? I don't eat takeaways any more but I do drink alcohol occasionally but we are talking very sporadically now. If it's a case of ditching everything and living off chicken, rice and broccoli for a year then I will get stuck in!

If you're still fat then you need to lose more fat, it's as simple as that really.
Joining the gym and starting using weights will help avoid you becoming skinny fat wherein you're about the weight you want to be but due to lack of lean tissue you just end up looking like a smaller version of where you started.

If you're still losing weight on what you're currently eating then there's no need to change it, I'd just throw in a few resistance sessions a week to begin with and see how you get on. Even something like resistance bands will help if you can't get into a gym.

Personally I'd avoid going full nuclear and hitting the chicken, broccoli and rice style dieting as it's not sustainable for most and is a bit grim.

Exactly what I was thinking thank you. Regarding macros I have my fat set higher which is what keeps me motivated as I don't enjoy being carb heavy but if it's doing me an injustice I will change it? Hopefully that's not a stupid question lol, currently I'm on 2444 calories, 30% carbs (183g), 25% protein (153g) & 45% fat (122g).

Nothing wrong with keeping fats higher if you feel better on it, it won't have a negative impact on fat loss.

Thank **** for that haha. For now it works for me so I guess I'll continue. Time to drop the calories again then and see what the next few months bring, keep it up everyone

What's MFP? Sounds like it's working though as that's an impressive amount of weight to lose!

My Fitness Pal

it’s an app for logging food intake and exercise to calculate daily calories.

Can also input weight for trending.

I don’t know what the premium version offers as I’ve never bothered.

As for me I’m still bouncing around 100kg. I usually weigh myself on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday. I follow a pattern of ~100kg on a Friday then up to 102kg on a Monday and then drop down to 100kg again on a Friday.

I didn’t weigh myself yesterday as the scales needed a new battery, but today I was 100.2kg. I’m hoping with a decent day I’ll finally see 99 tomorrow! Although I know it’s never quite that simple.

It’s annoying as I don’t think I’ve been too bad over the weekends over the last month. It just needs a real concerted effort to push through this barrier I think.

I bought myself some salter digital scales which measure BMI and a whole load of other stuff.

But then also bought a normal one without batteries and whenever I weigh myself they are both different.

Not hugely but I now take the middle measurement of both to try and get it a more average measurement.

Hope this makes sense?

I'm not suggesting you buy loads of scales but perhaps having 2 sets will give you a better idea even if it is out by a few kilograms.

Yeah, if i weigh myself upstairs it's usually a different measurement, i'm not really too bothered about accuracy and just use it as a general guide so as long as it's consistently wrong i'm ok with it, if that makes sense.

I do contemplate buying some of the scales that do other measurements, but being a Garmin user i'd really like the Garmin ones but there's no way i'm paying £100 for some scales!

I have a particular place on the flooring in the bathroom that’s my ‘scale spot’ for consistency.

Finally dropped the water after what seemed like ages. Getting pretty veiny but also getting the gaunt ‘death face’ so probably should call it a day soon then maintain at the new weight for a couple of weeks before hopping back on the gain train.
