The UK is a very rich country. There's plenty of money to do pretty much anything the government wants to do. 'We don't have enough money' is a laughably transparent myth.

No it's not we've massively increased our deficit due to the pandemic and keeping people in jobs through the furlough scheme. That needs to be repaid at some point, sooner rather than later with higher interest rates due to start soon. You can't just raise taxes to stupid levels to pay to make the world a better place as it also pushes up wage demands and inflation.

This is going to end up locked again, isn't it.

Doesn't appear to be any different then before. A discussion has arisen instead of a thread leaving condolences.

Amess has wished many times for Southend to become a city, I see the time had come around again and he was out campaigning for it. It seems very fitting to honour his memory by granting that wish, it is a shame he won't get to see it himself, as regardless of politics, he did really love Southend.

* Islamic terrorism

Regular as clockwork.

He’s British. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your racism.

I'd be interested to know what happens with security arrangements for MP's after this. Anecdotal evidence: We went out last night to our local curry house and the walk takes us past our local MP's house. Nothing obvious when going, but coming back there was a PSCO transit van parked outside. Nothing was done after the Jo Cox murder, now we have a second.

I assume you were both outraged at all white people when the MP Jo Cox was murdered? Or was that guy just "unwell" rather than a terrorist because he was white?

Whats skin colour got to do with this? Ohhh you think all muslims are brown skinned? LOL

Other transgressions from the religion of peace this week include yet another suicide bombing in a mosque, guess they were not muslim enough?

If he is off Somali origin then no he is not British. Rescind any erroneously granted citizenship. Birth should not be sufficient in any case.

This is an utterly heinous attack and even more endless proof that we have to end the scourge of this abysmal murderous cult.

I think most people are outraged at neo nazis and thier ideology yes

They pointed to his beliefs not his skin colour so that would be the comparison.

Thread re-opened and off to a great start. Hope the mods aren't too hung over.

Please go and make a thread and discuss these other important things. The murder of an elected representative is a big deal and should be discussed, as it seems it's not a rare event and it is almost as though we are now at a point of not wondering if it will happen again, but when, if nothing changes in terms of protection (screens like at the Post Office, online surgeries, armed police?), the riling up of hate (on all sides) and preventing extremism (of all flavours).

If MPs are fearful then those "bigger, more important things" won't quite be focused on the way that they should. Also, this guy was doing the little things, talking and listening to his constituents, they still matter a great deal and are a great deal of importance to them. Please don't be ignorant to how big and important this was and is.

Unfortunately not as many as probably should be. Don't forget, far right extremism has been called the fastest growing threat in the UK. 5 far right groups have been proscribed as terrorist organisations in the last few years. Hell, the members of National Action actually lauded the death of Jo Cox, which is what led to them being proscribed.

Britain First, a far right fascist group has just been reinstated as a political party and right wing authoritarianism has been growing rapidly across the world and a lot of these groups use Nazi iconography.

Far right is pretty vauge people who support trump get called far right or people who support the tories but he was ful on nazi, the comparison made was that people are ok with him because he's white.

And you're now trying to play off some proscribed groups as if th majority or even a significant portion of the UK population supports Nazisim.

Unfortunately not as many as probably should be

What do you personally think the number is? % wise?

Don't forget, far right extremism has been called the fastest growing threat in the UK.

That means it's the smallest.
