Dune: Part 1 (2021)

At Manchester's Vue IMAX screen, this wasn't just a film, it was a genuine experience for me. Denis continues to create sci-fi universes which are so rich yet strangely tangible (see also: Blade Runner 2049), which I think he achieves in large part thanks to his use of practical sets and makeup where possible. I had a few niggles with the plot (I also have zero background knowledge from the books), but overall I would happily see this a second time, and would welcome an extended cut too.

Casino Royale. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381061/

I've seen the odd bit before but this was my first time seeing it all the way through.

Craig makes for a fine Bond, IMO, he reminds me a little of Connery, maybe it's the rugged, tough side to him.

Solid movie, I rarely rate films as it's subjective, though if I were to in this instance then something around the 8/10 mark would probably sing out from my cherry red lips.

I'm currently viewing The Quantum of Solace and although I've not finished it yet, I'm also liking this one, too. I'll probably finish that this evening.

Quantum is a marmite film, the first part I think is awesome, simply suffers an slightly over complicated plot and gets silly. Not seen the latest, but with Craig films, like Brosnan, vanity kicked in, compare Casino with the later offerings - say no more.

All Bond needs is to fight bad people; who want to take/destroy the world. Without over complicating the plot! The best and redeeming scene in Spectre is the fight with Mr Hinx. Modern Bond's miss the 'Jaws, Oddjob' foe!

Watched The Conjuring and its sequel 7/10. I very much enjoyed both. The Exorcist is still the best.

The first is the better film, although the creepy nun painting in the second is a great sequence

Dune (1984)

Never read the books and so didn't have any idea what the film was about. After watching this 1984 effort, I still don't have much idea of what the story is about.

I understand that the theatrical cut probably has 40-60 minutes missing from the director's intent, but even that couldn't save this mess. The acting would still be as bad, as would the special effects and the music.

My only regret is that I didn't fall asleep for most of the film. Easily in the running for one of the worst films I've ever seen. I really did struggle find even the smallest thing to like about it. Not even so bad, it's good.

Would've been interesting to see how the film could've turned out if Ridley Scott and some of his Alien collaborators hadn't left the project.

I really liked QoS. The intro was fantastic too with the Aston Martin.

Out of Death

with Bruce willis.

not sure if he just couldn't be arsed or if he was heavily medicated but it wasn't his best performance.

3/10 at best

Last Night in Soho

First trip to the cinema in ages.
I was recommended this film, but the premise sounded intriguing.

It's quite an odd film, but the acting from the lead lady and the Queen's Gambit actress was brilliant.

No Time To Die

I don't particularly take to the new Bond movies as much as the older ones, although I did find myself enjoying it. Definitely the best of the Daniel Craig movies for me, although that's because I've not enjoyed some of the previous ones as they've felt too much like Bourne and not Bond. Certainly worth a watch.

Muppets Treasure Isalnd - 8/10
Not the strongest from the human cast although Tim Curry was a very good Tim Curry. I like the songs in this one and the tale is amusingly told. It's not Muppets A Christmas Carol, which is the best version of that story bar none for me, but it was still very good. My youngest daughter was hooting with laughter all the way through so that's a seal of approval.
