Carabao Cup - Semi Finals ** Spoilers ** [5/12/13/20 January 2022]

Hold on a minute! @Drukk told us we were playing the covid card so that the game was played when Salah and Mane were back!

Part of it yes, that did not happen but I still believe they could have played this game but wanted the break, maybe they will but I doubt they will now play Sunday either. Its not personal against Liverpool, it is my view clubs are trying to use the excuse of covid to their own advantage when it suits, that I have stated from the start of my posts.

Jose Mourinho criticises Jurgen Klopp's behaviour after Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1. ... The Reds boss was exuberant during the fiercely fought contest decided by Roberto Firmino's 90th-minute winner. "If I behaved the same, I've no chance to stay there," Mourinho told Amazon Prime. "I'm out one minute after."16 Dec 2020

Just one example, I'm not going to look at quoting others, I'm sure you could look them up if you want. Like I said, a great manager and Liverpool are a quality team but in my view he gets away with a lot.

One thing about this though, and I reckon even other fans would agree with this, we should be allowed to push our Burnley game back until Sunday.

Asking us to play less than 48 hours after a game we wasn’t even scheduled to play is taking the ****

There is a winter break coming up from 24th Jan to 4th Feb for the PL.

If Liverpool wanted to use it as an excuse for a break they would have done it when they had to play Spurs, Leicester and Chelsea with up to 10 first teamers out and not when they are playing Arsenal and Shrewsbury.

Probably will be but Burnley would have to agree. A Liverpool game didnt get moved this season, later kick off, after we requested it as the other team refused, may have been Watford but not sure.
That was more to players returning from international matches tough.

Arsenal v Burnley won't be a TV game I guess so pretty sure they would move it.

Surely the EPL have the final decision though?

Drukk aside it's not really a slight at Liverpool, it's more the fact that games are postponed based on criteria thats not being made transparent. I know it's a different body but why are Leeds forced to play kids VS City but the Pool game gets postponed? It's not very clear what the criteria is and when it means that if a team can't name a strong enough line up a match gets postponed, it's always going to cause a bunch of rival fans to get angry.

For a good example, see the fact that Pool have said the Shrewsbury game is still on, some people having a right meltdown :D

Seems we haven't got enough players to name 14 players which needs to be 2 keepers. 10 were out against Chelsea, 3 gone to the AFCON, these were all 1st team players, Klopp said one or two youth players had it, no idea on the amount of cases that have been reported on Monday and Tuesday, 5 or 6 extra and its a bit of a struggle to come up with a team, especially if all the keepers have it.

Don't think we could even use Karius wherever he is as he isn't registered or a under21 player.

When did Leeds have to play the kids v City, the 7-0? They had like 2 under 23 players in that game starting.

Your cynicism is misplaced. Had this been a non covid season, none of Alisson, VVD, Trent, Fabinho, Mane or Salah would have featured vs Arsenal even had they been available. Just like vs Leicester, it would be a mixture of 1st team squad players, the odd 1st team player needing minutes and then topped up with u23s. And vs Shrewsbury it would been an even weaker side, with fewer first team squad players and more u23's.

Of all the times Liverpool could have played the covid card to rest players, this wasn't it. We would have been resting all our key players anyway!

And before you get annoyed next week when Alisson is in goal, the only reason why he or any other key players might play is because the alternatives aren't available.

I said this weeks ago but tbf, this has been clarified in recent weeks regarding the PL at least. If you have at least 13 players including a keeper from your 25 man squad and or u21's that have played first team football that season available then you have to play on. There is ultimately no one right answer regarding this whole issue though. The way in which covid spreads and the delays between players returning positive tests means a side could have 15 players available today but less than 10 available in 2 days time. And for every supporter complaining about postponements, you have even more complaints if games are postponed on the day of the game too. We get shouts of just play the u17s but is that what people really want? The PL is meant to be the best League in the world and people want to put on circus matches where City beat Leeds u13s by a cricket score?

We're in a period of covid lottery. Some teams will have outbreaks that lead to postponements at the right time and others at the wrong time. Teams will be facing oppositions either severely weakened by covid or on the back of a nice break. I mentioned this in the covid thread a few weeks ago but the NFL have decided that they're no longer testing vaccinated players unless they're showing symptoms. They've decided that the risk of covid to pro Athletes isn't serious enough to warrant testing and the show is going on. Given how many positives we're supposed to have had post Chelsea, it appears clear that several players played that game with covid. Maybe the NFL have got it right and we should just play on through it and just accept that some players will have it but not be showing symptoms.

Surely the EPL have the final decision though?

No idea but it was Watford who refused to move kick off from 12.30 to the evening, but like I said that was because our Brazilian players weren't coming back until the Friday so maybe not so much a reason to move it like for Arsenal as its the whole squad.
It will get moved.

Presumably the 3 Players off due to the Africa Nations kick-about were not taken into consideration as part of the EFL judgement on what is supposed to be a covid postponement?

Of course they were. They take into account players available, not specifically covid cases.

Liverpool have less than 10 first team players available, which may include 0 GK's so it was basically impossible to play it.

FA Cup game hopefully goes ahead if one of those keepers returns negative tests in time, I guess Ali has a chance as he was the first keeper to get it otherwise the fixtures will start to pile up.

Couldn't you argue every single game could have been played? Clubs have 25 man squads plus youth etc.

if they really wanted clubs to play and not reschedule they could say in this scenario you may use unregistered youth players.
