For a single person maybe, remember some are coming in groups, like families that want to stay together, you think £350 is enough to host a family of 3 or more or even 2. Come on really think about it. One person maybe and then you help too, but anything more is taking the micky for the host and the government should up it by the amount of people, not a one off payment no matter how many you take in or how many rooms or a full property you have free.

£350 is a joke, and even the kind hearted people will realise this soon and why they are told you can take them but for a guaranteed 6 months only.. What if the host decides they can't afford having them there ? the 6 month trap may have legal consequences and forcing the host to keep them there no matter what. This is not how it should be done, they need to help the host with bills and extra costs too. It's a disgrace.. They need to do more really and all these kind hearted people will suffer in time too with the financial burden maybe. I'm not seeing rich people step up, I'm seeing normal people in normal homes that most are struggling with their bills.

Maybe if they are dining out on McDonald's every week. Total energy costs for a family in a room is what £50 a month max as most of the expensive stuff like heating is already offset by the house owners.

I am a family of 4 and could quite easily live off £300 a month for food.

are they being trained by an active battalion of our army? one that is being supplied by our government and is recognised as officially part of the army?
Do these flags with that symbol remind you of anything?

What about the badge on the left of this image?

Do you recognise the symbol of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich, Hint it's the middle image.

officially recognised as part of Ukraines National Guard and heroic defenders of marupol

oh sorry the symbol is an I and an N meaning Idea of the Nation

watch the last video from 6minutes, that's democracy in action

people comparing them to ISIS wannabes in the UK and the BNP
are you guys serious? or just blinded by hate for Russians.

They are essentially the Al Qaeda , we would bomb the hell out of them if they were arabs preaching death to the west.

Hows over throwing the Afghan government for letting AQ live there any different to what Russia is doing now?

these people are indoctrinating kids in training camps as I already posted videos of from western news sources.
I like how you conveniently ignore the existence of the Wagner Group

Exactly, the only significant energy costs are going to be extra cooking and hot water. And it doesn't cost 4x as much to feed 4 people as it does for one person. A lot of people must be shopping at Waitrose if they think it's not enough.

Most people are lazy and eat out or get fast food delivery. Preparing your own meals is cheap and easy. A large chicken soup costs about £5 to make and will last two days for an average family. Beans egg and toast about a quid a day for breakfast. I am sure Ukrainians are akin to this anyway.

You are missing out a big chunk of the story.

It is an interesting parallel but there are 2 problems with what you are saying - these far right groups only really became a thing like they are now in Ukraine due to Russian aggression and the ongoing threat has meant Ukraine can only attempt to regulate them not tackle them as they need them in the fight against Russia... now for the real rub - most of these far right groups had alliances with and in some cases spawned off from ultra-nationalist and extreme-right groups in Russia - only separating in 2013/14...

Prior to 2013 they were much less of the monster Russia has made them into now - albeit still something which should have been dealt with.

Are renters prohibited from taking in a refugee?
The building insurance a landlord holds on their property generally forbids renting to asylum seekers. They would need to pay extra for an endorsement allowing this or potentially move to a specialist insurer.

I have no idea if the visas Ukrainians will receive under this scheme classes them as asylum seekers. I also don't know if a UK renter trying to house a Ukrainian under this scheme would cause insurance problems. It would appear to if a landlord wishes to provide an entire dwelling.

We have a Brexit thread..post it there.

I’ll post where I want thanks when it’s relevant to the potential UK response to “associated parties” to Russia.
I suspect we’ll be less willing to sanction India if it openly trades with Russia than other Western nations due to our stated goal of being closer with India as part of Brexit.

I wish people would stop conflating leaving the EU with not wanting to help refugees. These divisive, sweeping statements do not help.

Not my intention. But it would be hypocritical of me to strongly advocate for broadest shoulders taking the largest burden, and European solidarity if I wasn't inclined to then support European refugees when I have the resources to do so.

I would totally do it if I wasn't renting, I have a spare room and £350 would easily cover costs, a refugee doesn't eat £350 of food in a month and run bitcoin mining rigs. My food and utility costs only total £200 a month.

We heat our house during the day regardless as we WFH. The 6 month period would largely be over the summer so I expect it would just be food, essentials, some cheap clothes etc. For me the sacrifice would be loss of privacy, not the financial impact.

Wouldn't trust anything Russia says, their actions speak differently - any "positivity" in talks at this point will just be them trying to game an advantage on the battlefield.

Agreed - at this point I half expect them to try for a ceasefire and then just use a few days to move forces and logistics into better positions before resuming.

Russia has many weaknesses, but it *is* good at undermining decency, sowing the seeds of mistrust, and making sure the situation in eastern Ukraine never settled down. That's not to say there aren't unsavoury element in all societies, which will flourish in testing times (and Ukraine's been tested for a long time!) but to me "Azov's law" has become the new Godwin's law.

That's an interesting point - with Putin under serious home pressure, I wonder if this weakens the current world wide commitments he's got with various terrorist and conflict fighters. Possibly weakening partners.

I imagine confirmation bias is big in those groups.

The analysis someone provided of their military and apparent competitiveness (the 'Checkmate' aircraft to the F35B etc) is all marketing. As long as the terrorists keep lapping up the marketing (they will) then there will just be emboldening of their support for Russia.

It's a bit like how the whole Western world approaches housing. I mean, it can't fail right? We have no other option than for it to succeed. So may as well keep lapping it up!
