seems they had a Military exercise in 2018 with over 300k troops
The week-long exercise, known as Vostok-2018 (East-2018) “have kicked off” in far-eastern Russia, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.
Taking part in the drills are around 300,000 Russian soldiers, 36,000 military vehicles, 80 ships and 1,000 aircraft, helicopters and drones, as well as 3,500 Chinese troops.

SO it's probably likely they have at least that much they could spend on Ukraine in total.

So where did Russia go wrong if they are really running out of MREs etc?

They were sitting on the border burning through food for ages, do people really think they sat their until supplies were almost running out and then went in?


did all 190k+ troops really go into Ukraine like we have been told? there's never been any footage of anything but small scale fights so it seems really weird, we've never seen any big ammounts of Ukraine troops either even in Kyiv? the most shown by TV cameras ahas been 50 or so guys on a bridge near the start?

Yeah, does my head in - as soon as oil prices rise the pump price immediately increases, even though the fuel in the station may have been sat there for a few days bought at the old price, but as soon as prices of oil start to decrease it is weeks/months before we see a reduction.....that's my perception anyway.

Who is talking about 1940's?

And yes Russia are getting close to "using up" all their current "front line" troops, apprix 280, 000 - 300,000.

But here are 2 million reserve troops who have served within last 5 years, so not totally untrained, that could be called up, none of those have neen mobilised yet.

There are a further 20 million who could be called up after that, should it be necessary, one of the reasons Russia raised its alert level recently, actually means those reservists could now be mobilised if required.

None of whom will be taken from anywhere else, to leave Russia vulnerable anywhere.

The one thing Russia will never run out of, is people.

You know what would be totally ironic and wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Seeing Afghan western trained military armed with weapons from the West because of how the conflict in Afghanistan ended.

Yes well that's the new world we live in and has been coming in for over a decade, it's the plebs that normally get picked on by the police because they can and get away with it. Welcome to the new state police and we are sat here complaining about Russian police for people protesting, same here is happening lets be honest this country is slowly turning into a police state too, look at all the new recent laws they pushed threw.

I don't agree what these people are doing but the polices reaction is way over the top but it's us plebs that are paying for it of course, tax payers money means they can do what they want with it, seems money is always tight to help the UK people but always money that appears to help the rich. Anyways new world of stupidity and soon civil unrest everywhere to come soon after April once the plebs realise how they are getting screwed more and more everyday with some BS excuse from this government, now all the blame is on Ukraine why we have higher bills lol, but we were told all this before the war and now they have added this on as an emotional blackmail to the UK people on top of the never ending covid mess that will of course come back to bite us again as is happening in the rest of the world and our numbers are going up again too.

They = high level government of Russia. 'The old guard' as such.

@Hagar Let's be honest, when has just about any communist system been 'really' communist ideals? It is always for the benefit of those at the top whilst FORCING everyone below to be servants etc. (we could say the same about most political systems, but communism is nearly always abused)

idk do they really get classed as "Soldiers" ?

still makes me wonder where everyone is, from the footage we have seen you'd think only small convoys and recon teams are even operating.

even the Ukraine army where are they? I don't think I ever saw more than around 50 Ukraine soldiers together and that was near the start guarding some bridge.


it doesn't really feel like some massive war is going on, there must be areas with heavy concentrations of troops though I guess.

In theory yes but calling up reservists to fight in this war I think would cost Putin a lot of credibility with the Russian people and could turn support for the war on it's head. I also suspect a lot of those tanks are in long term storage and require a lot of work to get them battle ready, again that will cost money and the country is on it's knees as it is (we've seen videos on just how delperdated the equipment their using is god know how bad mothballed units are).

In terms of manpower though this is one area where Ukraine might have a short term edge over Russia, from what I've glenned Ukraine has in theory they have around 900,000 reservists available (people with some sort of military experience in the last 5 years) with about 130,000 trained fairly well (people who have had war/battle experience since 2014). Hopefully if Ukraine can hold out for a few more weeks they can mobilise their reserves and create an even bigger headache for the Russians (we've seen just how effective small groups can be in attacking these Russian convoys and grinding them down).

If you were a billionaire would you be furnishing your pad with stuff from the charity shop and Ikea? Such opulent extravagance is what sets the average billionaire apart from people like myself, busy deciding if the mark on the kitchen table will buff out or a permanent table cloth is needed.
