The more we see and the more we read of the corruption of this government and our state the more I realise that the organisation that publishes which countries are corrupt is either inept or as on the take as the the big credit rating agencies were in 2007 in regards to financial institutions and their exposure to subprime mortgages. That half the MET appears at a break in at a Russian billionaire's when for us plebs you can wait for days for a single officer to turn up and tell you they have no leads shows it really is an us and them society

Its not like this corruption wasn't known, its just the right wing press here played it down and our idiot PM is somehow coated in teflon. With what is happening in Ukraine/Russia and his personal intervention in getting the son of high ranking intelligence officer turned oligarch a peerage against our intelligence agencies advice I wonder not only how he's still PM built how he isn't under serious investigation. This country is become a joke it really has.
Why do you hate your own country?

There are some horrendous war crimes happening, it's pretty much terrorism at this point.

NATO needs to up its game with these drones, that old Soviet drone managed to fly across 3 countries before crashing the other day.

Quite possibly that was the result of Satnav (GPS/GLONASS etc.. ) spoofing though.

That one seems doubtful given they're already struggling with logistics as it is, not sure they can just divert manpower and vehicles to a commercial logging operation instead, though it would be comical to see them try it.

Now, let me be clear, it's far from my intention to say this is specifically about Colonel_Klinck, it is not. I can only have personal conjecture and no certainty as to his origins, as with most on public forums, but in my opinion, some who continually post derogatory comments about the UK must have a marked differentiation between where they are living now and where their heart still lies.

Quite what the UK offers, or their long term goals are, to override their heart and personal values in order to live in this country, is also open to conjecture. Given their hatred of many facets of the UK and her history, there must be a pressing need to be be here, yet be so openly vindictive about their adopted country's history and culture.

That's got the feel of something far more significant than it intially appears

Threads move too fast for me to keep up, but this would be world changing - if anything though it would make conflict in the South China Sea way more likely as would change the equation significantly for the US. That would be the start of a global move away from the dollar as a global reserve currency of choice

Chris, you could have said “I think he must be an immigrant” :D

Seriously though I took his post to say the government were an embarrassment.

People being ashamed of the past are just the flip side of those being proud of it to some degree. We seem to think we can judge people in history by current standards which is a bit of a nonsense. The important things are the actions and words now, in the context of now (we a nod to the successes and failures of the past but not taking them as an instruction manual)

Russia is keeping the bulk of its modern and best forces out of this so far. My prediction is that as soon as these are committed to the fight in Ukraine - China will move on Siberia/Eastern Russia. This will put them in favour with the West, and reduce immediate pressure with Taiwan and the first and second island chains.

Win win for Big C - they get a load of space and resources, look good with the major powers and those they really depend on for growth economically. Big risk on Nuclear retailiation though - but they do have a capable counter.

I think the problem people personally are those who cannot understand that criticism of the government is not criticism of the country.
Generally I find these people very black and white, its all good or all bad, they dont seem to be able to differentiate and as such they come to false conclusions.

I mean I am very very critical of this government, they are poor, very very poor. Personally my bias is they are so poor because mostly they were Brexiteers promoted way above their ability just to deliver something to appeal to that demographic since its the only way they will get to retain power.
My other personal bias is that as an actual Tory party member I don't want to see our chances of future success ****** down the drain for the above reasons. I fear a Blair 97 moment if Starmer manages to pull off a strong election campaign.
Saying that, I would prefer a Blair government to a Johnson one right now.

Put the bong down, dude.

Sure. Look at it this way. When I was growing up we had a tonne of lodgers brought in to help with the costs of running the house, and exchange students for various other reasons. Sometimes they were nice. Sometimes they were bearable. Sometimes they were awful. You just don't know what you're going to get. Have you ever gone on the scout for new flatmates post, say, age 25? It's hard to find someone you get on with well enough, let alone someone you would choose to live with.

So given the choice... I would opt out. It doesn't mean you're xenophobic or racist, I don't care if they're from Ukraine or Upminster, I don't want another person in my residence who I don't know.

There's a difference between saying you would opt out and saying they are going to gorge themselves on food, and implying they would all pillage the house as you did, that definitely is xenophobic.

It's logical though right?

China know and have stated they need more space and resource and have been obviously looking south and hugely expanding naval force - but now there's a massive opportunity for them with the forces they already have availble. It's not that mad in these times to consider
