New car delays.

The other halfs car was confirmed to be in the UK on Monday this week and assigned it's Registration, just waiting for confirmation on when it will get to the dealers, they were hoping next week.

Cannot believe email sent today, the Velar was supposed to be on the production line on the 17th of this month.

So that's ordered last March with 2 cancellations by Land Rover and now we have to re-order same vehicle again.

Cannot wait see the build time on this one, Range Rover and Sport 23 models all had 1 year production delay when I last looked last month.

Land Rover have today announced that they will be switching to model year 23.5 on Velar models.
Any orders that are in the holding pool on model year 23 will unfortunately will not be built and this includes your order.
Land Rover have confirmed that we will be able to honour the discount and the price protection(if any) amount that was applied from model year 22 to 23, however there will be no protection from 23 to 23.5 model year.
We have until next Friday 17th June to re-load your order.

It’s all down to global chip shortages, which will last another year or two. Not the oems fault, they juggle available supply to biggest sellers/demand, ie new Defender in JLR case.
Many companies outside of automotive will fail as they won’t have product to sell with the right chip. Plus automotive can no long bang the table and demand supply as before. As the order books are full without needing to sell to the automotive sector.

I suspect more and mroe people will be seeing this. We have had a new VW Touareg on order since last May at work with expected delivery 31st December 2022. if it slips anymore into 2023 there is a new model coming out so all orders will be cancelled and people will have to re-order the new (more expensive) model.

I suspect if fuel prices continue to climb some of the monstrous cars will be cancelled anyhow, unless they were ordered as PHEV versions, and the people who buy them decide to actually plug them in. Also JLR are desperate, they are losing sales hand over fist with Jag, basically selling no cars, so LR is all they have left and they need to maximise every car sale for profit.

Invent much ?

A company ‘desperate for sales’ have too much demand for supply

Not true. Please don’t make stuff up. There’s never been a bigger demand for V8s.

Are they? Range Rover Sports, Range Rovers and Discoveries are all selling faster than they can make them. They recently announced record order books of 168k units.

The new Defender is also totally sold out and fetching overs, friend got one and is very tempted to flip it as he has been offered like 20-30k over list, having seen it I absolutely love the looks of it, absolutely stunning. Also spotted one on motorway last week in like a burnt orange colour, absolutely looks amazing and they seem to be sold out and big demand, obviously if fetching overs.

I literally spelled out LR separate from Jaguar. Also, as I said they want to cancel orders with cost reductions, as they as you point out can't make them fast enough, due to parts shortages still, so everyone they sell with a discount is lost profit.

suppose it's the ability of the companies to satisfy the orders despite semiconductor&ukraine which will indicate their financial health

pretty interesting that Honda/hyundai are up 20%/30% over 2021 - how did they do that ?
whereas vw/merc/bmw down -10 ish, so, this probably says where you can get a car from with the least delay, or paying a premium to jump queue.
porsche prioritized production I guess, dacia too.

Some manufactures definitely secured better deals on their chips and could keep building longer without being affected so badly. JLR definitely dropped the ball on their contracts, the worsed of any manufacturers,

Surprised to see Merc isnt down more than they are as I gave up on my Merc order after 6 months and they still didnt know when they were going to build it. And these are high end expensive cars with the biggest profit margin for them so you think they would be directing any chips they did get to those cars.

BMW conversely last year was a joy to deal with. Small delay but ordered an x5 on 31/10 and got it on 9/3. Surprised to seem at 14.1% but things may have got worse for them since I got my car.
