Think I'll hold off then. I had settled on the 5800x3d with a plan to keep an eye on stores and order. 2 currently have them available.

But if there is to be new processors, it might be worth hanging on with my 3900x.

I found this the most useful guide by far;

Thanks for posting that Bottle! Five minutes to set up and a nice reduction in temps plus better all-core frequencies (I'm running my 5800X3D in an NZXT S340 case with an Arctic Freezer 34 eSports cooler and the temps weren't great before - maxes out in the low 80's now).

Have a 6950XT at the minute. Would be nice to switch from my 9900K to the 5800X3D but unless I sold my current CPU + MOBO combo I can't really justify it.
I bet there'd be a noticeable jump in performance though.

Ah well, waiting for Zen 4 it is.

Bumped my all core clock to 4.45GHz, Lowered my volts to 1.163 from around 1.26v, Lowered temps, Increased scores and FPS slightly at 1080P, Nice find !

To be hitting 5.5 GHz all core heat is obs well controlled so the 3d version might be quite something

Increased IPC + clock 4.5Ghz vs 5.5Ghz (22%) we could be looking at another +30%, that's without the effect of high speed DDR5.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zen 4 matched Zen 3D, 8% IPC, + 10% clocks, but Zen 4-3D is just an absolute monster.

I think I may have an issue somewhere in my system, Even with the 3D I'm still only getting low GPU usage at 1080P in a fair few games on a 6950XT, Confooozing

"Still" ? this suggests you have something to compare it to? a previous CPU?

Average FPS is all very well, but how is it for min FPS?
That's where I would expect to see more gains plus dips are far more important in games - although if those Borderlands averages are already over 150 that game may never dip low enough to be noticable.

Yep comparing it to my 5800X non 3D, Averages and minimums have gone up but comparing my results against reviewers with a similar system I seem to fall short in all game benchmark numbers, In some by quite a hefty margin.

All I did was swap out the non 3D for the 3D, Maybe Windows 11 requires a fresh install.

SotTR, how does it compare to this?

I can't put it on Ultra, my GPU isn't anything like fast enough to make the CPU a bottleneck but.....

I'm downloading it again now if you want to run some comparisons.

Appreciated thanks, You'll have to give me until tomorrow though, I'm on a 2MB line so will take me a while to download it :D

I just ran it again and weirdly..... i have a 50Mhz CPU overclock, it doesn't make this much difference :D

Graphics Lowest: 184 FPS
Graphics Highest: 142 FPS

From Slide:
12700K: 156 FPS
12600K: 156 FPS
5800X: 152 FPS

Ok so highest settings, its 100% GPU locked at this point, and the RTX 3070 is what, 35% faster? So the slide i posted is clearly CPU bound, i'll be interested to see what you get @Dicehunter

Not sure it is CPU bound as this is what im getting at 1080p with a 3080.
