Summer Transfer Window 22/23

In terms of talent, Rabiot is a far better player than someone like McTominay, but that's somewhat irrelevant with all his associated problems...

Seems to move teams every few years which is never a good sign. Last thing we need is bad attitudes in the dressing room. Yesterday will have really hit home how much we need to replace at least one and probably both of McFred. Sounds like every team used Fred as their press trigger because they know he is so poor under pressure and will either always go backward and shunt the pressure onto someone else or muck up the pass and give the opposition the ball at the edge of the box.

FdJ would be a lovely signing but it seems less likely by the day. I really hope that we have been making enquiries about alternatives though because another season of McFred would be a disaster unless EtH can work miracles.

Why is it so hard to get some decent midfielders in for Utd? pluck some players from Portugal league or Brazil or somewhere, how do these other clubs find talent it a joke from top to bottom.

It's genuinely baffling. I am not joking when I say you could load up the latest Football Manager, input the required attributes, and you'd have a list that's more useful than whatever scouting database we are using.

Probably because you don't have a scouting department? Seems you ripped up ragnicks recommendations (the entire reason he was given the job for 6 months apparently), appointed a new football guy in murtogh that heralded a new dawn and yet up to now the transfers you were going for were all people ten hag knew and with the latest rumours you're panicking the same as every summer. There's zero footballing direction even with the new appointments.

Until you get rid of the old regime that seemingly has a lot of power you'll stay in this position (the same thing happened post Busby), mind you it could be argued that you've just returned to your natural position, sniffing around the top spots but never there afterall you've only ever had 3 managers win the top division title.

When I suggested McFred aren't good enough I was told I was too negative.

Who said they are good enough?

It’s simply poor ownership and woeful club management, nothing to do with our ‘natural position’ - that’s the Liverpool delusion talking :p

No one. I have tried to explain that you can't replace an entire team in one window and that a good coach can get the most out of a player but I don't think anyone has been suggesting that we would still be relying on them in a few years if things are getting better.

I don’t think Rabiot is rubbish, just potentially problematic. I’d rather give him a go than stick with McTominay, but it does scream panic buy. He’s been transfer listed since June…

Maybe it’ll be different this time!

I was hoping ETH would be testing out Garner/Hannibal/etc.

Maybe not recently but for a good while a number of Utd fans were very defensive of any criticism of McTominay in particular.

I agree with you re not being able to rebuild the entire team in one window but your midfield situation does sum up the ridiculous disjointed approach Utd have had to transfers and squad building for sometime. Utd have needed to upgrade their central midfield options for a good 3 years and would have known for sometime that Pogba and Matic were both off this summer, making midfield reinforcements even more of a pressing issue and yet 3 weeks until the end of the window and you're in this situation.

Whatever Utd's plans were 24, 18, 12 or even 6 months ago have just been ripped up, the keys have been handed to ETH and he's been wished all the best. For one of the biggest clubs in the world to still be run this way is criminal. For the past 12 months Utd should have had a list of realistic and attainable midfielders lined up ready for this summer.

Your glass is permanently half full.
