Yes it looks like flaring, but the reason for it might be more interesting.

If they are only selling 20% of the capacity, and they are still producing, then without storing it they need to flare it.

This flaring activity could go on for a long time, needlessly burning the fuel into the atmosphere instead of selling it.

Not convinced that's a real issue. The base of the 'fire' is quite high so I think its just the flaring tower. I used to see similar all the time near here (Stanlow Oil Refinery).
I was born and bred only a few miles from there . ... sorry not relevant just saying hello to fellow cheshire lad ;)
(the smell was pretty bad at times visiting friends who really were next to it).
btw.i had exactly the same thoughts on that fire, that it looks like a vent of some description.

Great & Little Sutton lad here :) Off topic: but the smell round there is usually coming from the sewerage processing plant the other side of the A5117 rather than Stanlow.

Interesting speculation that choking gas supply to europe has serious risk to the russian gas operations.

Can't stop the supply at the well without creating restarting issues. Can't store that much gas either.

So could be flares the size of a skyscraper become more common as russia chooses to burn it.

Now Greta's fainted and the Germans are getting hysterical ;)

Apparently more environmentally friendly to burn it than to just release the gas. Source, some chap on reddit so must be true.
Well it is certainly less dangerous for animals at least.
Turn on a gas oven without a flame an it can kill in minutes. Light that gas and you can safely stay in the room.

You make it sound like you don't believe the climate change narrative.
Apparently the number of coal plants being opened in Germany (well, re-opened) has never been higher than now when Green party is at the helm. Guess they don't believe their own stuff either

Yes, methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide (and water)

I'm not sure the host knows how nukes work lol. (He likely does, it's just more rhetoric from State TV).

If the West were to engage in the same sort of dialogue we might be in a whole heap of trouble right now. And again, to won't, it is just talk. MAD applies which is why we will never give up our nukes.

Oh I absolutely do believe in climate change and that humans are accelerating it. Also that it’s safer burnt off than just released.

Yes, Germany massively shot themselves in the foot with the removal of nuclear plants. If the nuclear lobby were as good as the fossil fuel crowd we’d all be better off. Or glowing orange.

Given the let's create a tidal wave from a nuclear torpedo and sink the British Isles nonsense we saw on Russian TV a few weeks back it's pretty clear they're utterly clueless or at least pandering to some cartoonish version of how nukes work for domestic consumption. :D
