I don't think it is that "seismic". She was 96. Obviously her family will be sad, and i understand that a lot of people liked her. I would also send my condolences to her family and I did have a good amount of respect for her.

However, i do find the coverage and upheaval rather over the top. People have had important hospital appointments for life threatening illnesses they had booked for months cancelled, all because a 96 year old woman born into immense privelage and wealth, due to an archaic way of government/rule, died.

No, they haven't. No-one has had a hospital appoint for a life threatening illness cancelled. They've cancelled stuff they wouldn't ordinarily do on a bank holiday, on account of - you know - it being a bank holiday; but the NHS runs all critical care on a bank holiday too.

It's an important event; but I don't think it's a seismic one. Things will continue much as before.

It's a shame people can't handle a bit of inconvenience for something of such importance to the country.

The hysteria over not being able to do X on one day is extraordinary.
 
I think one thing that's not been made tlvery clear is which cancellations / closures are for 'respect' and which are simply because there will now be staffing issues, and normal bank holiday arrangements. Having different hospital appointment arrangements on Bank Holidays seems reasonable to me, cancelling them out of 'respect' does not (and I strongly suspect the former is the case rather than the latter).

Depends on your priorities I guess and what inconvenience individuals have to suffer (for me, none apart from yawn tv). All I am saying is that it's importance, like the Monarchy as a whole, is not a fixed deal we all have our own calibration on that topic.

Splitting hairs but there has been a few examples of people waiting for important check ups on potential cancer diagnosis. So it may be "life threatening" but it is certainly adding more unexpected/unplanned time into the schedule.

Exactly, if you close the schools/childcare eveything else will suffer domino style
 
Center parcs wanting to throw everyone out on that Monday. They have now had to backtrack it.

Hospital appointments being cancelled. It wouldn't be so bad if at the same town they announced more clinics. But they leave everyone hanging.
 
Any hypothetical cancellations of 'life threatening' illness appointments are of course unnecessary, but we know the health service are not always the best when it comes to organisation...

So what's the solution to that then - no bank holiday, and then millions of people will be forced into work and can't watch the state funeral.

Funny thing is, I bet that kinda thing would've **** the Queen off having it done in her name.

Yes and give them an extra days leave to use whenever, the same way many businesses operate on BHs

Sounds very poor taste, here, have another day off but not the important one.

I think it's a small miracle that so many businesses that normally shaft their employees when it comes to BH are giving the majority of their staff the chance to take part in said BH.

How is it poor taste? IF you want the day off then fine, if you arent bothered about watching it come in to work and have a days holiday to use when you want.

Its important to you...not to everyone.
