*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Just got the following deal for mum...

Sky Q
Sky Signature + Ultimate
Netflix
HD + UHD
Cinema pack
Sport pack
Kids pack
Multiroom (1 extra box)
Ultrafast BB
Phone line & Anytime call package

No upfront or installation costs as they have tied it into moving house too which is hsndy.

Pretty sure it amounted to about £94 pm which is a vast improvement for them as they were paying £105 a month previously for just the old Sky plus, no BB or Phone.

I was less than impressed when speaking to them on the phone though and they exclaimed that they shouldn't have been paying anywhere near what they were for the old Sky plus and had been a customer for like 12 years or something. I wonder how many older people they just rinse for services who don't think to check or challenge their bills.

That said, the fact we've been able to consolidate everything, get them UHD, Netflix and much faster BB for less than they were previously paying is a win for them.

Interestingly this deal came out cheaper than what the F&F deals can offer at the moment.

THIS is what really frustrates me. Even if you get a decent deal you need to phone up every 12-24 months or they’ll put you into a regular contact and you’ll find the price of your monthly bill doubles. I appreciate that’s a common business model these days but few companies crank the bills up as exponentially overnight in the way Sky do. Does feel very geared towards scamming the elderly and those less numerate by suckering them in with cheap deals then mugging them later in the contract. I know a few friends who had elderly relatives with dementia/etc who've been paying Sky thousands annually in contracts without realising until someone else checked their monthly statements for them.

Quite frankly I don’t want to give money to a company that gouges its customers In that manner. This was my main reason for cancelling.

Finally cancelled ours last week, and haven't missed it one iota.

SKY are getting desperate IMO, and things are only going to get worse as the recession continues, inflation and mortgage payments go through the roof, and obviously the next 2-3 years at the very least are going to be horrendous for energy bills. The cost of greed crisis is not going to end overnight, in fact I just see these huge corps and businesses just brazenly charging what they like because the know the tories will make the tax-payer pay for their profits.

Just like they have done with energy bills. There's been a windfall-tax but it's been levied on the taxpayer.

Ive been weighing up whether or not we actually need ours.

I don't really watch live TV at all and whenever I have sat down to watch something I've gone to Netflix to find something. However, I can see that my partner has watched the following:
  • The Chase (sometimes live but mostly recorded)
  • MAFS (Recorded)
  • British Bake Off (Recorded)
  • First Dates/First Dates Hotel (Recorded)
  • Random stuff on iPlayer.
We literally hardly ever watch live TV, ever. Everything we consume can easily be accessed through an on-demand app/channel.

The only thing which makes it an easy option to keep is that it actually doesn't cost that much more than our internet to keep running. I think we pay £39 a month for our Sky package atm which includes the Netflix subscription and internet, but I imagine if we binned the TV we'd lose any discounts and the internet on its own would be like £26-£28 p/m, at a guess - so for £11-£13 per month its actually not that bad.

That being said, I don't like being wasteful and if I can cut down on something like that (we can easily jump on to her mums Netflix account) then i'm more than happy to bin it off.

We ended up paying £36/month once our discounted contract was up, that's for basic package plus HD. Sky phoned me twice a day every day for the last 10 days before cancelling, and when I finally answered they offered me £17/month for 18 months. It wasn't enough to keep me though and I don't think I'll ever return.

Just logged in to sky to see what is on offer
my contract ends at the end of January.

obviously deal is shocking...
HD
Multi
Netflix
Ultra HD
for £60...

answer to this is no...

we mostly watch pre recorded show and news channels..

time to check 4k streaming/freeview boxes out...

Cancelled my Sky earlier this week as contract was due 15/1/23 anyway and saw bills were going up. £20 to cover next months final costs and all disconnected on 3/12/22. Cya later scumbags !!

Old man has been with Sky now with Full TV package 32yrs and never once left or looked for anything and is still using a Sky+ box which is about dead. Utter madness. Looked on his MySky app and all I see for upgrades is a £4 discount to upgrade to ultra HD at £8.

What sort of deal would one be looking for with that sort of loyalty? He needs a new box For a star.

Unfortunately in 2022 there’s no reward for loyalty. It’s all “new customers only”! Only way to get a decent deal is to actually cancel your contract and see what deal they phone back with several days before it runs out!

I don’t know if he’s keen to stay with Sky but it would be worth looking at alternatives like BT sport , Amazon prime, Netflix, etc as they’re generally cheaper. Even free view has loads of channels and HD these days. What does he normally watch on sky?
