Well, I have to say, I'm really impressed (Not something I say much about games anymore!)
I was expecting a good step up from Diablo 3 from what we saw in previews and developer diaries etc, but it was overall better than expected and surprised me a lot with how much fun content was in the first Act. I really loved the aesthetics of the game, and they managed to capture that old Diablo feel that D3 was missing. Everything from the enemies to the dungeons and town designs all seem to fit a fantastic art direction. Oh and the music and sound effects are fantastic!
I only played a Sorceress so far and pretty much did everything in the game (aside from the world boss and a few blue quests.) The combat was tight, I experimented with different build but ended up with a really strong Hydra/Firewall build and a complete set of Legendaries

Some of the boss fights reminded me a lot of FFXIV, so there's definitely a strong MMO vibe throughout the game. Personally, I like it, it adds longevity and aids in world building.
The highlights for me though are the story and the numerous little sidequests that fit in with the struggling lives of the people caught in Sanctuary. I think the story is inspired, like it's not a been-here-done-that kinda thing. I think Lilith is an excellent villain and despite what happens in the game, I was left a bit torn near the end of Act 1. I don't think it's going to be as black and white as it looks. The lore of Diablo is something I've not really given much thought to, but it really shone through here. I think the more cinematic and personal approach to the story really works well, and I love how horrible it is

. It actually reminds me of Witcher 3's world; that thick, dark atmosphere that shows the harsh nightmarish conditions the people are living through etc.
It's not all great though. I think the UI needs a rework, there were bugs here and there, like invisible walls, watching my character being rubber-banded by lag and unable to leave the city. Some of the systems need better presentation, like Aspects, crafting and just overall how it shares information with the player. Also I felt a little underwhelmed by many of the legendaries, like I always felt each legendary was compromised in some way by stat rolls. But it's early days.
I checked the world map and it's HUGE. I have my doubts that every region is going to be as good as the first, and I can't help but think of Diablo 3's Act 1 which I believe they also used on an open beta (the quality of the other acts fell off a cliff) but I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. I think this team knows what it's doing, and you can tell it's a passion project.
Anyway, super fun. It's definitely worth checking out the open beta next weekend. I'm gonna give the Necromancer a try
