** Diablo 4 Thread **

Im not seeing micro stutter I just get massive 0% GPU usage spikes that seem to happen after playing for an hour or two. The fix is to restart and hope there’s no queue.

I’ve had one CTD and a loading screen hang as well as the connection problems yesterday. All in all not too bad (queue issues aside)

Playing a melee character is rough though. The den mother is nigh on impossible as a barbarian.

Its definitely tougher with a melee character, my Barbarian hasnt made it to 20 yet and I'm a fairly decent player. Meanwhile, my other half, who is shall we say , a below average but passionate gamer, waltzed to 25 with a sorceress

Right, Barbie died again, ok....so recreated him and this time I will try a dual wielding bleed Barbarian, will start with Fray but set it to use dual wield instead of the 2 hander

So what's the verdict so far guys? As good as we all expected ?
It's decent, not spectacular. Beta ran very well today, no crashes or disconnects like yesterday. D4 leans heavily on the open world design and tactical combat mechanics of Lost Ark, and no doubt will have a similar level of "grind" once character levelling opens up with the paragon system ( which isn't in the beta ). Skills feel a bit bland, and need some balancing. Barbarian feels the weakest of the three playable classes in the beta. Will see next week how the Druid and Necromancer classes fare. I'm sure I'll get dozens of hours out of this game when it launches in June, but I have my doubts I'll enjoy repeating the open world grind with every season.

One positive on the open world grind is that when you unlock an aspect from a dungeon on one character it unlocks for all your characters, so you dont need to rerun a dungeon in order to get the aspect from it

Had some leaked footage of "end game content" which has since been deleted online.

Suffice to say, it's as I expected. Basically slightly harder version of dungeons with additional affix's

Now normally that would be ok, except these dungeons aren't randomly generated and are all basically the same, fetch x and place it on y to access the boss. This footage was from Oct '22 so maybe things have changed, but being Blizzard, I doubt it.

Diablo immortal end game has raids and PvP, will this not?

Well, I have to say, I'm really impressed (Not something I say much about games anymore!)

I was expecting a good step up from Diablo 3 from what we saw in previews and developer diaries etc, but it was overall better than expected and surprised me a lot with how much fun content was in the first Act. I really loved the aesthetics of the game, and they managed to capture that old Diablo feel that D3 was missing. Everything from the enemies to the dungeons and town designs all seem to fit a fantastic art direction. Oh and the music and sound effects are fantastic!

I only played a Sorceress so far and pretty much did everything in the game (aside from the world boss and a few blue quests.) The combat was tight, I experimented with different build but ended up with a really strong Hydra/Firewall build and a complete set of Legendaries :D
Some of the boss fights reminded me a lot of FFXIV, so there's definitely a strong MMO vibe throughout the game. Personally, I like it, it adds longevity and aids in world building.

The highlights for me though are the story and the numerous little sidequests that fit in with the struggling lives of the people caught in Sanctuary. I think the story is inspired, like it's not a been-here-done-that kinda thing. I think Lilith is an excellent villain and despite what happens in the game, I was left a bit torn near the end of Act 1. I don't think it's going to be as black and white as it looks. The lore of Diablo is something I've not really given much thought to, but it really shone through here. I think the more cinematic and personal approach to the story really works well, and I love how horrible it is :p. It actually reminds me of Witcher 3's world; that thick, dark atmosphere that shows the harsh nightmarish conditions the people are living through etc.

It's not all great though. I think the UI needs a rework, there were bugs here and there, like invisible walls, watching my character being rubber-banded by lag and unable to leave the city. Some of the systems need better presentation, like Aspects, crafting and just overall how it shares information with the player. Also I felt a little underwhelmed by many of the legendaries, like I always felt each legendary was compromised in some way by stat rolls. But it's early days.

I checked the world map and it's HUGE. I have my doubts that every region is going to be as good as the first, and I can't help but think of Diablo 3's Act 1 which I believe they also used on an open beta (the quality of the other acts fell off a cliff) but I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. I think this team knows what it's doing, and you can tell it's a passion project.

Anyway, super fun. It's definitely worth checking out the open beta next weekend. I'm gonna give the Necromancer a try :)

PvP in an arpg is a very marmite thing, many people don't bother with it, specially the "hardcore" players.

There are world bosses, on a week long lock out so not something that can be repeated at will, unlike for instance Last Epoch boss content, or Path of Exile pinnacle boss content which can be done as often as you want, as long as you have the encounter fragments.

If dungeons are going to be the D4 "map or monolith system" then as they are currently will be extremely dull and repetative after a short time.

Try doing all 23 dungeons in act 1 currently, by the time your half way though you'll be bored, now try repeating them 100 times. Blizzard did say they would be going more into detail about endgame after the beta, not sure if its this week or next, but it will clear things up because long term I don't see D4 lasting much beyond its campaign and new game ephoria.

The whole collectible aspect as well, could be an issue, specially if they are not account bound like the lilith statues, imagine having to repeat that rubbish every single season. There's 28 of the damn things in the act 1 zone alone.

I'm not trying to be a debbie downer here, I'm just not blinded by the "ohhhh shiny" aspect of a new game. Yes its good, yes its fun, and yes I will be playing it, but beyond the campaign I don't see how it can be a long term thing like the 13,000 hours I have in PoE, or the 600 hours I have in Lost Ark, or the 200 hours I have in Last Epoch. There just isn't enough depth or complexity in any of the systems I have seen so far, including from leaked footage last year.

Played couple hours

My main complaint is why can't I move my character with wasd keys? Please add this blizzard, moving with the mouse is ridiculous

I put a few hundred hours in diablo immortal

What kept me coming back is that the game has 600 levels to earn and it take long to do that; there are 6 levels of difficulty and gear drops, gems to farm, pvp rewards to earn and difficult 10 man raid bosses

The game uses all vram you have, in my case the game uses 22gb, I don't have any stuttering though

Really had high hopes after seeing the intial itemsation.

But i gotta say d4 is more mmo than actual arpg. Everything is just easy and a bit shallow. The skilltree may as well not exist.

So unless they start showing the endgame more and it’s different to what we can currently do, id say this is going to flop, not sales wise but cant see people sticking around. :(
