Death Stranding

I've got back into this on my Steam Deck and got addicted. I like the structures appearing that other players have made, but I agree the signs are annoying. It can ruin the isolation of it all. The beginning part of the game is much better due to the lack of spam from other players. You can always play in offline mode though.

I spent a good chunk today just rebuilding some roads as some of the terrain was getting annoying. I don't mind cliffs, ect. where you use ladders, but constant rubble is tedious.

The story is utterly bonkers but strangely compelling. I think the facial animations and voice acting is amazing though. Graphically it just looks real a lot of the time. They really nailed the landscapes.

The BT sections are often more annoying than scary but there are ways around them.

I like how it makes sense that you don't kill anyone in the game, due to 'void outs'.

Yeah it's mostly the player signs that bother me. They are all over the place, spinning, glowing and making silly baby noises :p Visual graffiti.

The BTs are a funny one. Five minutes after introducing them as the main threat (so far), they give you a thing to get rid of them entirely. So it's just a bit of busy work stocking up on the tools to get rid of them, because there are about 20 in each "pack".

They are also too close together to successfully navigate through a pack of them, so I just found myself making huge detours in the earliest part of the game. Then a little while later you get to remove them, permanently AFAICT.

e: One of the things that's most annoying atm is Sam himself. He has a tendency to be jogging along normally, and then suddenly fall over. Not sure if it's fatigue or he hits a small rock or something, but he'll just swan dive to the floor. About once per delivery route, so my cargo is always ~5-10% damaged.

Keep scanning the terrain, he can trip over easily, especially with a difficult load. You can get better equipment to help later. It’s then no longer an issue.

Yeh.. The closer you are to maximum carry capacity, the harder it is on uneven ground.
Always scan... Especially when trying to cross water.

It sounds like you are not far into the game yet.

So is off line mode a thing or do you have to disconnect?

All of the deposits left by other players sound really annoying.

You can disconnect in game easy enough, but it somewhat defeats the point of the game. There is something warm and hopeful when you come across the signs and items left by other players amongst the desolation.

Pro tip..in early game.. once you get out of the tutorial map... make an effort to raid the first bandit camp you come across. not so much for the loot, (but grab it anyway) but you can also steal thier 4x4 truck/car once you've killed them all.

That will come in very usefull, as not only can you travel faster, on wheels, but you can put your ill gotten gains from raiding the bandit camp in the boot space of the car, as opposed to trying to go back and fourth with it on your back.

+1 to this tip. I had done the same and it made life easier, at least traveling along main roads. The truck was hidden in one of the tents and I almost skipped the tent as I was overloaded with loot.

Absolutely. Did this on my second playthrough and it sped up the game several fold. I just baited them to my position, ran around a rock as they got out, jumped in and drove off. They aren’t smart. Ideally don’t kill them or you make work for yourself.

Funnily enough I've just done this before coming back here and reading your post :p

On Normal diff the combat seems like a complete joke, so far. Was 6-on-1 and Sam just beats them down with his fists whilst being prodded with electric javelins! He just don't care. I guess you're supposed to stealth and I was trying to use the fake smoke cargo but it didn't seem to do much and in the end we just kicked the carp out of each other.

Oddly enough I remember only using the rubber bullets with weapons and knocking them out. I didn't actually get around to trying live ammunition to see what happens if they die. Do BT's appear? But yes @FoxEye I also found that the combat is relatively easier.

You've got to take the bodies to an incinerator, otherwise there is a voidout and it's game over.

Is it worth upgrading to the directors cut before trying this? Not sure what the actual differences are to the main game if any.

Many QoL changes. I completed both versions and the DC was much better. The extended road network was a lifesaver. I did play it on PS5 though that had even more changes I believe.

One of these is true but the game doesn't make it clear which it is:

1. if you get too far from a vehicle, the vehicle cargo is lost but the vehicle is retained
2. if you print another vehicle, the cargo of the previous vehicle is lost but the vehicle itself is not

The game doesn't warn you when printing another vehicle that you will lose all the cargo in other vehicles...?

I can’t remember, but are you sure it doesn’t go into storage? Depends where the vehicle is I guess.
