Death Stranding

How could you even watch something that repetitive/bland/boring though, I mean playing it is dire, but at least you're involved, the idea of watching what is it like 35-72 hours to finish it, jesus christ, just NO!

I put I think 12 or 17 hours into it the last time I tried to play it... The plot went nowhere? Other than we're lying the presidents dead and now we're going all the way to somewhere else bolder filled.

I did consider watching all the cutscenes to see if it actually went anywhere, given the decent cast shown in the trailer cutscenes, but I reckon even that might be a waste of my time and miss out bits of the plot?

I genuinely think this game is an inside joke and a **** take, designed to see how dumb/gullible people are and if they'll just buy anything because of the name attached to it...
This was back during the Covid days, so I was working from home (ergo: painting Warhammer) for 8 hours a day. Stuck it on in the background and only really watched the cut scenes :D

I have been tempted to watch the cutscenes, 11.5 hours worth, some nice person has put together on YT... It's a shame as the original teaser trailer that came out years before the game, had a spooky potential all whilst explaining nothing, so I was really hoping it would be worth playing, then I played it, and it was just Postman Pat simulator drivel, with added social media nonsense, then I found out how long it was... Sucks, we would have killed for MGS games to be as long as this, but no the one game he makes long is the worst thing he's ever done.
What a waste of what appear to be very well done cutscenes...

Definitely should have just made a movie...

Personally, I enjoyed DS very much.

Some deliveries are nothing but a ball ache and trying to ride the bikes/trucks over the rocky terrain were rage inducing. That aside, I liked the story even if it didn't make a huge amount of sense, the latter parts of the game story I thought was excellent. It's a beautiful looking game. Early doors, getting past the BTs was a nervy experience. Coming up with elaborate ways to clear the Mule camps is cool and you can work out which to hit the get the resources you want. The road and structure building is a slow process but the more you play, and with other contributing too, it doesn't take long to get the important routes laid down making deliveries far easier and quicker. Only thing I would say is, whatever you do, don't kill anyone and leave the body.

Very much looking forward to DS2, more Fragile.

Are you going to carry on?

Unsure at this point whether I should join in the self-flagellation. 15 hours in. Knowing it doesn't get any less tedious...
I'm going to flagellate a little longer, because I hate myself that much.

I think it'll take about 3 hours tonight to repair the 20% of the road network that's seriously degraded. If you don't, they eventually deconstruct, and the cost to rebuild them goes up...

OK I've got to Chapter 6 which is the mid-point of the game as far as I can tell. Kojima has upped the tedium stakes a lot, now.

1. Your ability to see the invisible enemies is removed entirely (plot device).
2. The terrain is all mountainous, all the time.
3. Snow. Snow slows your movement to a complete crawl. You can no longer run, and your vehicles cannot do more than 5mph.

(It's quite realistic I suspect, that's why you need snowmobiles and snow shoes to make good progress in snow, which you do not have access to. Just regular boots and a regular motorbike, so you just go ultra slowly)

4. All the deliveries are to people who live at the top of mountains. I'm not even joking.
5. All the way up the mountains are invisible enemies that you can no longer detect in any way shape or form (see 1).
6. If any of the invisible enemies see you they throw you all the way down the mountain and it triggers a boss fight.
7. You then have to return to base camp to resupply, and try again.

Seriously, the theme of this game is not "connections". It's "persistence". Either your will wins or Kojima breaks you and you go do something else. That is the game's purpose.

It would be great to be a fly on the wall at Kojima's studio where they have the ideas meetings on how to add new stuff to a game. That meme where the boss throws an employee out the window springs to mind when someone suggests something logical to Kojima.

Despite being a die hard MGS fan, I'd shout "this is why you had MGS taken away from you, for making **** like this!" and kick him out the window through the glass, ala Robocop Rogue City stylie!

It's beyond pathetic people simp so hard over this cause it has a moderately attractive bond girl in it... Sigh... Must be hard being a 40-60 year old geek virgin perv these days

I remember the first delivery you make in the mountains unlocks a new pair of legs that makes it much easier. Also this point of the game is where you start building zip lines and being online will mean that there are already some around to make use of and create "connections" with.
I think this part of the game was actually the least tedious and I'd say you're past the half way mark.

It was shortly after this point that I stopped playing. The game, which was supposed to heat up after chapter 3, never did. And my "persistence" was completely gone at this stage.

There are people who have played this 3 or 4 times through, spending 100's and sometimes 1000's of hours on the game. I can kind of understand people playing it through once, the graphics are amazing and the story is very well done and might be appealing for some people. But the gameplay is the very definition of tedious. How could a person go through all that more than once is beyond me.

Not noticed this thread before. I tried the game a while ago and found it to be exceedingly dull. I was told by a friend I just didnt "get it" so its quite nice to see others not finding it amazing :)

Also can someone tell wtf the title of the game has to do with the actual game or is just the same as most Kojima games, in that it makes no sodding sense.
It's.... complex :D

I found this tedious and engrossing in equal measure, the landscape is harsh as hell and the environment brilliantly done. Maybe I got lucky, but players had popped up lots of warning signs and route signs to help and I also didn’t get dragged particularly far when I did get caught. You’ll get zip lines if you haven’t already too. Quite a bit of the directors cut mountain road had already been built for me. There are much more tedious bits later on :p

I’ll never get my head around this game. Tediously compelling and one of the few I’ve completed twice.
