That would be one hell of a distance for a Patriot missile to cover. You would think the signals given off by the system locking onto the aircraft would give the A-50 time to respond. They would also have to set up the Patriot battery near the front lines and I've no idea how long that takes.

UK announces it is deploying 20 thousand troops to take part in NATO's operation Steadfast Defender, the largest NATO training exercise since the Cold War - practicing fighting against Russia on land, sea and air.

I am very far from a missile/radar expert, but the Ukrainians have proved themselves to be very resourceful, and I wonder if they're finding ways to use the Patriot's guidance/tracking capabilities with some unusual missiles, extending the range somehow. Or boosting the radar range and pushing out a missile launch platform much closer to the invaders than expected?

Whatever's going on, seeing important Russian assets fail and knocking Russian confidence is always a good thing. Especially now, when US internal complications are slowing down support.

I'm so confused lol, Russians say they shot down their own planes, Ukranians say nah we did it

Now that the news is out the 2 choices the Russians have are:

We accidentally shot it down and we have "dealt" with the issue.

or

Ukraine can shot down our aircraft over the sea of Azov, which is far behind their lines.

One will hurt the Russian air force moral, the other might destroy it.

I mean the Ukrainians say anything without fact checking so would take with a pinch of salt as they have propaganda to push.

Doesn't change the fact that it's a loss for Russia though, both financially and logistically but also from a morale viewpoint as they look incompetent and also unable to project any form of power reliably. It's embarrassing as hell for them that they suffer such losses.

Could be special forces with man portable.

Some reports Russia is restoring the slave trade, offering cash for other nations undesirables. Russia is truly screwed if true.

Hmm crediting the air force instead of special ops bringing down those 2 aircraft. I'm wondering if Ukraine has some shiny new planes and trained pilots. When Himars arrived it was "announced" by some very unexpected and spectacular strikes.

I had thought maybe sabotage given the distance from the front lines, but this opens up some interesting possibilities. Or its just a double bluff on the Ukraine side to keep Russia guessing and paranoid.

Are they using all those F16s they got given yet?
