Hmm, I have a Gerber paraframe and tbh the blade is ****.

I've sharpened it multiple times, but it just dulls really quickly.

As in - cutting up 5 or 6 cardboard boxes to put in the recycling - quickly.

Maybe just my sharpening technique needs work
My technique is awful, but if I can get it to slice through paper with some ease then I'm happy.

Once you feel the burr, flip it over.
Also, I think less is more.

I'd put Gerber at very average personally - I don't find they dull really quickly but definitely don't hold an edge as well as some brands and the edge tends to chip/notch quite easily.

I bought a locking buck knife about 7 years ago, used it loads - still sharpens very well, expensive but worth it.

Blimey that is expensive.
Opinel do a good range of practical knives for outdoor uses, great quality and reasonably priced. I have a few as they're a no nonsense tool that are easy to clean and hone.

Of course if you intend to hunt bear then they aren't so useful, but for fishing and game shooting they are perfect.
Hmm. They look interesting but I don't know what to look out for when it comes to intended use (for knives in general).
Doesn't this sort of post get you on a watch list nowadays? :o
Probably already on it.

More replies coming in a couple of minutes...

I wouldn't bother with Amazon. I've been looking for a new EDC, and Heinnie seems to have a good selection.

Also if you need "incredibly sharp" then you're going to need to learn how to do that yourself.

Edit: the above assumes you do actually want a decent knife to use for outdoors type stuff.

If you just want a cheap and cheerful blade to shank a bruv and then chuck in the river, get yourself down to B&M and grab a Chinesium kitchen knife for £2
Thank you!
This is the op

This is a perfectly normal thing to post at 5:45am.
I couldn't sleep and obviously my brain broke at some point.
